Position Description:


Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact regarding school noon supervision and related services. Provides general and basic information to parents, parent representatives and students. Communicates effectively with students, staff and parents to build rapport, ensuring tact and diplomacy when problem solving.
  • Following established procedures, registers students, collects appropriate fees and accurately maintains associated books and records. Advises parents of established protocols for dropin students or changes in attendance for registered students.
  • Records or ensures the documentation of student attendance and absences on a daily basis. Followsup absences of registered students who did not provide prior notice.
  • Supervises and interacts with students by focusing on the positives, modelling and encouraging appropriate behaviour and manners. Remains alert to all situations that may represent a risk to students. Responds immediately by taking appropriate action to reinstate a safe environment.
  • Assists Administration in ordering supplies and materials for the noon supervision services. Makes recommendations to the Principal or administrative team on space, furnishings and equipment requirements. Recommends enhancement of services.
  • Assists the Principal or designate in the preparation of work schedules. Works collaboratively with school personnel to ensure appropriate coverage of the noon supervision schedule in the event of an absence.
  • Arranges and sets up the lunch area as required. Ensures that the lunch area is effectively cleaned and garbage placed into designated garbage cans.
  • May participate in educational appropriate activities as required. May sign out or oversee the distribution and preparation of activities, crafts or games. Ensures that students engaged in these activities receive supervision.
  • Issues emergency lunches/food as necessary.
  • Participates regularly in scheduled programs and workshops to enhance related knowledge and skills.
  • Assists in other areas of the school as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience

  • Six months directly related experience
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certificates preferred

NOTE:

This position requires lifting and carrying demands that range from a limited to medium National Occupational Classification category (carrying and lifting from 4.5 to 20 kilograms) for the majority of the critical job demands.

There are a few tasks that are in the heavy lifting category (lifting over 20 kilograms), however co-worker assistance is available for such tasks as setting up tables, thereby making it a medium level position (lifting from 10 to 20 kilograms) for each worker.

In addition to lifting from ground to above shoulder level, this position requires bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, walking, standing, sitting, and using hands in the preparation of foods, and the cleaning and moving of tables.
