The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Credit Risk Management co-op student/intern for the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 work terms (September to April) to support the credit risk rating process for BCI's private investment portfolios, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Debt.

The Investment Strategy & Risk (ISR) department plays a key role in setting, implementing, and monitoring the long-term strategies of BCI's clients.
This is accomplished by working with clients, management and asset classes to define the optimal path to achieve clients' outcomes, and enabling BCI's investment structures and processes necessary to fulfill these outcomes.
ISR consists of three branches:
Strategic Asset Allocation, Total Fund Management, and Investment Risk.
Strategic Asset Allocation assists clients with developing tailored investment policies that achieve investment objectives consistent with their investment philosophies, funding policies and risk tolerances.
This team also conducts research and models relevant macroeconomic issues including assessment of the current business cycle dynamics and research of emerging economic or financial trends, opportunities, and risks - all at an asset class and total fund level.
Total Fund Management is responsible for implementing a suite of total portfolio solutions such as rebalancing and for setting pool, asset class, and total fund measures of success, including benchmarks and performance objectives.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Perform preliminary credit analysis and recommend a credit rating; analyze financial statements, conduct peer analysis, perform industry research, and prepare supporting schedules- Write commentary for risk rating reports- Assist in developing and preparing credit risk dashboards and presentations- Support credit surveillance of BCI's private investment portfolios, including gathering and summarizing news from various sources and monitoring credit spreads- Support processes improvement initiatives
REQUIRED SKILLS- A passion for debt capital markets and fundamental credit analysis- Knowledge of financial statements analysis through coursework or relevant work experience- An ability to prepare clear and concise written reports High accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining deadlines- Advanced Excel skills- Familiarity with S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg is an asset

Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC- Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island- Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location- All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office.
