Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian, the Library Technician, Circulation & Access Services is responsible for the provision of circulation and access services, including e-reserves, scan and deliver service, and other scanning projects for archives and special collections, in support of teaching and learning at OCAD University.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Provide circulation services using OMNI/Primo and Alma library systems
  • Work scheduled shifts (e.g. afternoons, evenings, weekends) at the Dorothy H. Hoover Library circulation desks and the Library Learning Zone service desk for extended periods of time as scheduled based on service needs
  • Participate in the back up shift program for service desks
  • Assist in the coordination and handling of library materials and may be required to lift and/or move objects of up to 515kgs, with the assistance of a trolley if required
  • Assist patrons with use of the library webpage and the library catalogue
  • Answer general information and directional questions
  • Maintain the Library's photocopiers, replenish paper and supplies as required, and assist patrons with operational problems
  • Assist with training and supervision of student monitors
  • Assist with general maintenance of the library facility
  • Provide reserves, interlibrary loan and document delivery services, in collaboration with other Library Technicians, Coordinators and Librarians
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedures for ereserves service, the scan and deliver service, and other scanning projects, in consultation with other Library Technicians, Coordinators, and Librarians
  • Provide ereserves services for faculty using Library catalogue and databases to locate requested materials and process requests using ereserves/rights management and learning management systems (Leganto, Canvas)
  • Scan and process ereserve texts; scan and deliver texts; archival and special collections; optimize and edit texts using Adobe Acrobat software and/or ABBYY Fine Reader
  • Manage copyright clearances and royalties, including associated record keeping and reporting using automated rights management software (Ares) and Microsoft Excel, inclusive of print, electronic, and video resources
  • Assist in offcampus verification of eresources and document EZproxy access issues
  • Process payments for book sales, fines, and fees
  • Manage patron records and remove blocks for patrons on Colleague UI
  • Closely monitor the activities in the circulation module of Alma, verify data consistency and troubleshoot problems; periodically verify and check functions in Alma New Releases
  • Collect and maintain data, metrics, statistics related to the position and duties, recording these monthly on the Library's share Excel workbook
  • Assist the Assistant University Librarian in related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of Library Services

Qualifications:


  • Library Technician's diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of related work experience with a demonstrated strength in customer service or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills, with a working knowledge of the Alma, OMNI/Primo, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with automated rights management systems and/or electronic reserves systems an asset
  • Familiarity with library subscription databases and licensing terms as well as copyright law
  • A general knowledge of art and design
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and strong oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Compensation:

Hiring Range - $22.12 to $26.14 per hour commensurate with experience, plus 4% vacation pay and 7% in lieu of benefits; Salary Range - $22.12 to $30.42 per hour.


Hours of Work: 12 hours per week. This is a temporary part-time contract expected to continue until
December 22, 2023.


The incumbent in this role will be expected to report to work on campus.
