We're a Canadian-owned and BC-based energy company taking steps toward a lower-carbon energy future by providing renewable energy, natural gas and electricity to more than 1.2 million customers.

We're looking for new talent to join us as we transform BC's energy future.

Our diverse team of more than 2,600 employees is committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong and grow.

Join us and let's work together for a better BC. Position Overview

You lead by example by prioritizing safety and demonstrating your knowledge of gas infrastructure to mentor and lead a team delivering Operations oversight.

You focus on collaboration when conducting your work and supporting other departments and understand that leveraging diverse perspectives are key to driving engagement and innovation.

We need someone with your expertise and experience to be our Operations Supervisor, Right of Way.

In this role, you'll oversee and supervise staff and contractors responsible for providing safety oversight of third-party activities in proximity to high-pressure pipelines and provide technical guidance and support to staff on issues related to pipeline safety, ground disturbance, construction, permitting, and best practices when working around utilities and high-pressure pipelines.

You'll also oversee execution of the leak survey program for high pressure pipelines and provide support for the vegetation management program as needed.

You will:
Learn the Company's different work areas, and responsibilities of the pipeline inspection team to lead the coastal inspection program.
Manage employees in keeping with the collective agreement and provide mentorship and guidance to the team.

Oversee execution of the leak survey program, support the right of way encroachment abatement program and lend support to the vegetation management program as needed.

Work collaboratively with other personnel in operations, other departments, and contractors as needed to successfully execute projects and initiatives.
Familiarize with FortisBC policies, standards, and procedures as they relate to the work.
Understand financial planning, budgets, and cost pressures, and support budget planning for future years.
Promote innovation to work processes to troubleshoot challenges in the inspection process, find new ways to approach the work, and look for opportunities to move the business forward

What it takes:

A bachelor's degree or diploma of technology in a related discipline from a recognized program, certification with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC or a professional equivalent, plus four to seven years of related field experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of pipeline inspection procedures and policies, or similar knowledge and experience related to the construction or utility industry such as civil works, construction, or project management.

Excellent knowledge of safety approaches and procedures when working around utilities and high-pressure pipelines, including safe excavation and ground disturbance procedures.

Knowledge of pipeline inspection and vegetation management would be considered an asset.
Experience carrying out maintenance or operational programs including managing budgets and forecasting work.
Exceptional leadership skills to empower staff in improving business processes and work collaboratively in leading projects to success.
Great organizational and project management skills to balance competing priorities in a high-risk environment.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
