What You'll Do at Paradox:

The Civil Estimator ensures the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labour.

The Civil Estimator is tasked with preparing and maintaining a list of supplies, contractors, and subcontractors, establishing unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors and location impacts.

This individual's accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business.

  • Prepare, and /or coordinate the preparation of fullcost estimates on conceptual, designbuild or general work tender
  • Prepare materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out civil construction projects according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications
  • Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Provide advice on proposal procedures
  • Analyze proposals, recommend /reject proposals and negotiate contracts
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency
  • Conduct review meetings with clients
  • Participate and coordinate company risk and opportunity evaluation with clients
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on process from supplier through direct contact, sales brochures, price list, etc.
  • Support the estimating team as required, which may include preparing estimates for other disciplines
  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Effectively determine the bid strategies required for Paradox/Stratum to be successful
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation

What You'll Bring to Paradox:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Three or more years of experience in estimating
  • AutoCAD experience is ana asset
  • Able to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints, and asbuilds
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for development of material and labour estimates
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for interpretations of job cost reports
  • Able to use costestimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • High level of professionalism and demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Superior time management skills and multitasking skills with a strong sense of urgency under mínimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental programs
  • Knowledge of general construction and materials systems and procedures
  • Understanding of project scheduling and estimating techniques
