Primary Purpose:

University Canada West is looking to hire an experienced and versatile Communications Manager to join our dynamic award-winning team.

This position is perfect for a seasoned communications professional with a strong digital copywriting background looking for a new challenge.

The primary purpose of the Communications Manger position is to provide communications support for University Canada West.

The Communications Manager will support a wide variety of department and university initiatives.

Their duties will include writing, editing, proof-reading employee and student communications, writing ad copy and other digital marketing content, as well as marketing collateral, writing and editing blogs, stories and website copy.


General Description:


Specific Responsibilities:

The Communications Manager will at various times be responsible for the following, as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University:

  • Write and edit stories, press releases, student messages, internal announcements and marketing collateral as needed.
  • Write clear and concise copy for the website while keeping SEO and web best practices in mind.
  • Edit/proof University communication or marketing material.
  • Liaise with other departments within the University to determine communications needs and fulfil those requests in a timely manner.
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.
  • Find ways to improve current processes.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices.
  • Other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University.
  • Help manage the Communications team and assign tasks as required.
  • Provide menitorship, feedback and support to direct reports to enable them to grow in their roles.

  • To be successful in the Communications Manager position, individuals must be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:
  • Mastery of written English grammar, syntax and punctuation.
  • Ability to adjust writing style for the audience of a particular communication.
  • Familiar with communication best practices and how to communicate effectively.
  • Keen eye for detail and ability to edit written copy and spot errors
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects at once and complete by stated deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Prior team management experience.
  • Good judgment and ability to prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods.
  • General understanding of the programs and services provided by the University.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional attitude and image with a commitment to quality service.

Education and Experience:


  • Diploma or degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Minimum 45 years of experience in the communications field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a manager with direct reports
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing compelling and creative copy for the necessary medium.
  • Able to interpret information and conduct research, if needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and word processing.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro is an asset.

Salary:
$65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
