We are looking for a reliable, energetic, trustworthy coach to join our club This position would primarily teach our fundamental level groups (6-12 years old).

These groups provide swimmers with their first competitive experiences and focus on developing the full range of competitive swimming skills and techniques.

The primary responsibilities of each Speed Coach include developing seasonal, cyclical, and daily plans, teaching in and out of the water, mentoring and directing junior and volunteer coaches, managing attendance, communicating with parents, assisting with the Splash Program once per week, and working together with the Head Coach on the further development of the program.


Requirements:


  • Previous volunteer coaching and teaching experience, or experience with children
  • Availability after school beginning as early as 3:30pm is an asset.
  • Completed, or will complete, WSI (Water Safety Instructor) or LSSI (Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor) or


NCCP's CSP (Community Sport Coach) or NCCP's Swimming Level - Ability to determine swimming level, analyze techniques and demonstrate corrections.


  • Strong organizational, management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Generally available for the entire term. Time off during the summer can be accommodated if requested early enough in the season for a coverage plan to be created.
  • Must be located in North Van or the Vancouver area, as practices take place in North Vancouver.

Hours & Compensation:


  • 15 week term from April 30, August 20, 2023. There is a possibility for continuing hours beyond the summer season during maintenance (September-April).
  • Salary Range of $4,000$8,000 depending on hours worked, qualifications and experience.
  • Approximately 1020 hours per week, however, hours may vary week to week and could be more or less depending on team events, training sessions and swim meets.
  • Depending on the number of hours worked, the club can compensate for:
  • Club membership fees, for the coach's own swim training
  • Meet entry fees, for the coach to race at swim meets
  • Coverage pay, for the coach to work other coaches shifts if they are away or sick.

Coaching Responsibilities:


  • Lead at least one swimming group and one splash class, and assist with other groups.
  • Plan lessons and dryland activities in coordination with fellow coaches and the head coach.
  • Teach swimming basics in and out of the water such as kicking, floating, sinking, and freestyle.
  • Create a joyful environment and improve water confidence using a range of fun activities and games.
  • Complete attendance, report cards, evaluations, and keep records of other swimmer data.
  • Submit meet entries to the head coach prior to the host club's coaches deadline for meet entries.
  • At swim meets, be a team leader, run team acvies, and assist swimmers with their races.
  • Mentoring, direcng, and assisng Junior Coaches and Volunteer Coaches.
  • Assist with other groups, the splash program, and shadow other coaches.

Professional Responsibilities:


  • Attend all scheduled work hours including, practices, dryland training sessions, assessments, team events, staff meetings, coach training sessions and assigned swim meets.
  • Arrive at the pool onme 15 min prior to the start of each lesson where possible.
  • Arrive at the pool composed, prepared and appropriately dressed.
  • Ensure the pool or training area is clean, wellmaintained, and free of hazards.
  • Use WhatsApp to reliably communicate with other coaches, staff and directors.
  • Respond to communications within 24 hours during the work week.
  • Complete at least two hours of individual professional development per month.
  • Maintain good standing with Swimming Canada and the NCCP Coaching Program.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • North Vancouver, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
