    ADDICTION COUNSELLOR

    Bargaining Unit: UNIFOR-SMITH
    Status: Full Time
    Department: Youth Addictions Program
    Site: Sister Margaret Smith Centre
    Shifts: Days/Evenings
    Rate of pay: $ $45.00 per hour

    This position is attached to Youth Addictions Programs and its partnership with the Integrated Youth System (U-TURN). As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Addiction Counsellor will provide addiction and mental health services. Services will include: screening, assessment, consultation, counselling, referral, discharge planning and follow up services for program clients as required. The role will also include collaborating with community partners, families and colleagues with regard to the client's mental health and addiction needs.

    Qualifications :

    - A Bachelor of Social Work degree or equivalent from an accredited University
    - Registered with affiliated college
    - A minimum of four years experience with mental health and/or addictions
    - Significant experience with with childrens/adolescents' mental health and/or addictions
    - Knowledge of the range of theories applicable to children and adolescent's mental health and addictions and experience in working with community partners
    - Experience with interdisciplinary bio-psychosocial model of care
    - Demonstrated understanding of of indigenous culture and nothern communities
    - Demonstrated understanding and training in trauma and crisis intervention models is an asset
    - Class "G" driver's licence and adequate insurance
    - Demonstrated regular attendance at work

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
