Position Overview:


The Michif Prevention Services Social Worker will provide culturally safe, and trauma informed intensive prevention services to prevent the need for more intrusive child safety interventions.

The Michif Prevention

Services Social Worker serves as the case manager of voluntary prevention service files, holds the responsibility of the effective implementation of the LMO Michif Practice Model, which includes the completion of balanced assessments, the development of case plans, the monitoring of case progress and the determination of the need for more intrusive child safety interventions.

The Michif Prevention Services Social Worker also provides direct support to families and works collaboratively and respectfully with parents, their natural supports, Elders, and a holistic team of internal and external service providers, to strengthen a parent's capacity to protect, care for and support the needs of their children.

Work in partnership with families, early childhood development workers, mental health, social workers, Elders, and other members of a care team to develop support plans to promote child and family wellness, family reunification plans, reduce barriers and prevent more intrusive actions such as child apprehensions.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Case Management_
  • Manages the effective implementation of the LMO Michif Practice Model
  • Completes balanced assessments for prevention services
  • Works collaboratively with parents, their support network and multiple service providers to develop effective prevention services plans
  • Monitors and evaluates progress towards identified goals and coordinates services, completes and monitors referrals and responsibilities of other resources and members of a family's care team
  • Provides direct onetoone support to parents to support progress towards identified goals
  • Assesses the need for more intrusive child safety interventions and provides rationale for assessment
  • Closes files in accordance with the LMO Michif Practice Model and coordinates honouring celebrations for families and their support networks
  • Maintains clear and accurate documentation, reports, and records
  • Consults with the Michif Preventions Services Team Leader and receives Team Leader approval at all key case planning and decisionmaking points
  • Respects confidentiality
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Community Development_
  • Develops positive working relationships with community partners
  • Participates in agency activities, gatherings, and celebrations
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or related field
  • Currently holds or eligible for full child protection delegation (may be required to attend delegation training)
  • Minimum 2 years related experience working with families in the social services field
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and community

Working Conditions:

  • Supervision received frequent consultation with a direct supervisor with the directive and regular review of the work performed. Must comply with the expectations of the Michif Practice Model.

Conditions of Employment:


  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
  • Must have and maintain a valid BC Driver's license
  • Must possess a vehicle in good condition and appropriate insurance.
  • As per Section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.

Covid-19 Policies:


  • As per current PHO orders regarding CLBC funded service providers, all employees of Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services are required to be fully vaccinated.

Compensation:


  • BCGEU Indigenous Service Employees are entitled to receive a retention bonus at the end of each fiscal year (until expiration of current collective agreement).
  • LMO Employees receive an annual wellness stipend following a successful probation and have the ability to participate in an Earned Time Off Schedule.
