  • Key Duties and Responsibilities:_
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the residential house program/s. Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates plans and programs designed to ensure that client's needs are met. Ensures that program standards, guidelines and policies of the organization are maintained and that all licensing requirements are met.
  • Supervises and evaluates program staff's work. Coordinates the scheduling of program staff. Participates in conflict resolution amongst staff. Assists in personnel activities such as interviewing, hiring and training staff, and staff discipline issues.
  • Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to support and maintain programs.
  • Supervises expenditures within the existing budget allowance and makes budget recommendations.
  • Ensures that accurate program and client records (e.g. data for individual programs and case recording) are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority. Ensures that all pertinent documentation is complete.
  • May deliver "front-line" services such as: crisis intervention, assessments; developing action or case plans; initiating case management strategies; coordinating the placement of clients to the appropriate programs; counselling, training and evaluating performance and progress of clients.
  • Ensures effective communication with staff, clients and significant others. Maintains an effective relationship with government officials and volunteer community groups. Maintains liaison with other community organizations to coordinate provision of services, resolve program delivery, exchange program information, or provide instruction on the operation and use of the program. May represent the organization at community fundraising events, hiring or requiring events, or other such official functions. Conducts special studies, makes presentations and maintains a current awareness of developments in assigned area of responsibility.
  • To be familiar with St. Leonard's Youth and Family Services hiring process and orientation guide.
  • Comply with the Ministry of Children and Family Services onboarding documentation requirements for contracted agencies (such as criminal record clearances and MCFD Hub clearance).
  • Follow up on prospective hires' references.
  • Contact new employees and prepare orientation shifts and onboarding documents.
  • Compiling and completing personnel files for all new hires.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications_:


A degree in social work, counselling or related field, or the equivalent in education and experience is typically required for this position.

At least three year's previous direct program delivery experience in the sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of child, youth and family programs, related provincial and community support services systems and applicable legislation and policies.

Previous program management experience is preferred, within the social services sector.


A Program Coordinator must possess:

  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Good time and general management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with program staff, volunteers, and nonprofit or publicly funded groups, agencies and organizations.
  • Familiarity with use of computer and other electronic devices.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Fully Vaccinated.
  • Successfully completed criminal record review.

This position requires the ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines including effectively managing emergency situations.

Program delivery activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness to effectively carry out duties of the position. Emergency response and some on-call evenings/weekends/holidays may be required.

Vacation Benefits - All permanent staff receive paid vacations with an annual maximum of 126 hours for full time employees and a pro-rated maximum for part time employees.
