Position Overview:


Reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager and indirectly to the Assistant Kitchen Manager, the BOH Team Lead is in charge of helping the overall operations of the back of the house for their shift to ensure guest satisfaction by serving dishes of high quality while reducing food wastes.

The BOH Team Lead will ensure policies and procedures are followed for the kitchen's cleanliness, ensuring that it complies with both company and food safety standards.

This individual will be held responsible for the shift's quality of service, food wastes, inventory, and meal consistency. They will train and educate the Cooks on daily tasks and keep the Kitchen Manager informed.

The BOH Team Lead is vital in securing processes and procedures to instill efficiency in the back of the house and maintaining high team morale with staff development and growth in mind.

A BOH Team Lead is expected to be the role model with the ability to complete hands-on tasks to ensure a smooth service.

The ideal traits for this position would be a resourceful, process-oriented problem solver, who can communicate clearly while working in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail and organizational skills.


What Are We Looking For?:


  • 1+ years of experience in a high volume kitchen or restaurant
  • 1+ years of experience with employee management
  • Open and flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
  • Able to complete physically demanding tasks standing for long periods, lifting 50lbs, bending and reaching, etc.
  • Comfortable with handling a knife, with food preparation equipment, and around heat
  • Quick learner when it comes to technology, software, and kitchen operations
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problemsolving skills

Summary of Responsibilities:

Employee Management

  • Acts as a role model for employees by upholding all standards, policies, and operating systems
  • Trains BOH staff on prep, temperature logs, maintenance practices, etc
  • Improves employee retention by coaching and committing to the growth and development of BOH staff
  • Emphasizes the safety, sanitation, and security awareness when overseeing the training of staff especially when operating equipment
  • Participates in hiring cycle, disciplinary process, and promotion process for all BOH staff by providing input on current department dynamics and observations as needed
  • Reacts appropriately when an employee is injured at work by following the health and safety procedure and filling out an Incident Report and requesting a manager complete the WSIB form
  • Leads the preshift meetings as needed ensuring the team is informed and engaged
  • Updates the schedule to reflect the daily attendance within the BOH team
  • Holds BOH staff accountable to all procedures and standards set out by Fresh
  • Develops staff knowledge on food safety and proper use of kitchen equipment correcting any action that would put staff and guests at risk
  • Emphasizes the safety, sanitation, and security awareness when training staff in operation of all kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Completes tasks assigned by the KM and AKM while remaining accountable for the overall shift
  • Attends manager meetings as required and is prepared to participate by actively listening and encourages and includes the opinions of others
  • Engages in Tiproll Committee meetings and responsibilities as outlined by the Tiproll Committee Policy
  • Participates in management training such as diversity and inclusion, procedures, skill development, etc.
  • Represents the Fresh brand positively when negotiating with vendors, suppliers, employees, and guests
  • Brainstorms strategies to improve morale, reduce turnover, increase teamwork and decrease disengagement
