The Manager of Taxation will direct and oversee all aspects of the organization's corporate tax strategy and ensure that all matters related to taxes are handled promptly and accurately.
They will also be responsible for leading of team of three professionals, identifying process improvements, implementing changes, and ensuring best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and review personal tax returns for owner and Family Office.
- Review and monitor all personal and corporation tax installments to make sure payments are within the deadline.
- Prepare, review corporation year end files and file corporation income tax returns.
- Prepare, review and file HST returns.
- File Ontario annual filing for Family Office corporations.
- Prepare, review and file T5013 Partnership returns.
- Prepare, review and file T3010 Charitable return, T3 and T5 returns.
- Review US partnership and corporation tax returns.
- Provide tax planning for the Terracap Group of Companies and Family Office.
- Provide cash flow analysis and forecast for the group of companies.
- Prepare Person Net Worth statement for Family Office.
- Oversee Family Office RRSP purchase and investment.
- Work with US CPA to create organizational structure to save and defer tax for projects, properties, and investments.
- Approve invoices for accounting, tax, and legal services.
- Review all tax notice of assessments and respond to CRA regarding any variance, tax review and audit.
- Provide tax advice to acquisition and development team for investments.
- Direct tax accountants for their tasks, tax compliance and financial reporting.
- Research and coordinate with tax expert and tax lawyer to deal with complicated transactions.
- Provide HST/GST/PST advice to property/project accountants and managers.
- Coordinate with bank for financing/refinancing and BA purchases.
- Prepare and calculate interest allocation for the group of companies.
- Lead and inspire three direct reports and manage the tax team's income tax activities.
- Respond to some investors for their inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Technical Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business (Advanced degree is a plus).
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (preferably CPA, CA).
- Completed Levels I and II of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course or Master of Taxation.
- Minimum 10 years Canadian income tax experience, including at least 7 years at retail/commercial real estate development industry.
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian tax laws.
- Strong knowledge of the commercial real estate industry, and the Canadian and US tax law implications.
- Experience implementing and managing Canadian tax structures and related compliance.
- Experience dealing with CRA auditors and Appeals.
- Working knowledge of various accounting software; Yardi Voyager is considered an asset.
