Community Relations Staff | Delta Community Office

Located at Trenant Park Square shopping centre in Ladner, the Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office is open to the public, providing the port authority an ongoing presence in the community.

Local residents and other visitors can drop in to ask questions, receive information and learn about port-related projects and initiatives in Delta, including the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project.


The Delta Community Office engages with the community through a combination of programming at the office and in the community, including a speaker series, port-related tours, events, and activations.

Every initiative is designed to create awareness and broaden the public's understanding of the Port of Vancouver and the port authority.

The Delta Community Office has two full-time staff—a community engagement advisor and community engagement specialist.


We are seeking a highly motivated post-secondary student to represent the Port of Vancouver and work alongside the Delta Community Office team.


In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the community engagement advisor and community engagement specialist to help implement the Delta Community Office's engagement strategy
  • Provide guest services at the Delta Community Office such as welcoming guests, answering questions, and hosting events and activations.
  • Assist with creating, researching, planning, organizing and promoting onsite events including guest registration and coordination, preparing event materials, and logistics and setup.
  • Assist with creating, researching, planning, organizing and promoting offsite engagement activities.
  • Perform emcee and/or tour narration duties as required.
  • Provide office services such as answering phones, tracking and recording statistics, operating audiovisual equipment, liaising with suppliers, and liaising with port authority staff at the corporate office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


You are an independent and self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and the ability to liaise effectively and positively with both staff and guests who visit the Delta Community Office.

You are enthusiastic, outgoing, customer-service oriented, reliable and resourceful, a creative thinker and a team player who is willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

You have an excellent command of the English language, both oral and written. Previous experience in customer service, communications, community relations or event planning is an asset.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office conditions with the requirement to occasionally attend and/or conduct evening meetings and events.

Work location is in Ladner at the Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office, Trenant Park Square, 5223 Ladner Trunk Road, Delta, B.C.

V4K 1W4

The Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office is open to the public:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday

10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Delta Community Office staff "working hours" occur before, during and after "opening hours" as per their employment requirements.


NORMAL HOURS OF WORK:


May 2023 to August 2023:
This position will work four days per week (Wednesday to Saturday), with occasional Tuesdays and occasional evenings. Working hours may include hours before and/or after the office's "opening hours."


September 2023 to April 2024:

RATE OF PAY:
$21.74 per hour. 1% of earnings will be deducted in accordance with the collective agreement.
