Nature and characteristics of the function


Work involving the performance of various manual tasks related to the various jobs carried out on public roads, in parks and others.


  • The work is performed under general supervision. The employee receives oral and written instructions. The employee is primarily required to perform various tasks requiring moderate physical effort. The employee is required to perform various maintenance tasks on public roads such as spreading abrasive on sidewalks, filling holes and sags in the roadway, digging trenches, cutting, tamping and smoothing asphalt and others. They must also proceed with the collection of household garbage or recycling. They must act as a helper on various motorized equipment and as a signaler in front of the snowblower. They perform some maintenance work in the parks.
  • Workplace: 7001 ch. Mackle, City of Côte Saint-Luc. Parking is free.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, day shift

38 hours/week- Salary:
27.99$/hour, according to the blue collar collective agreement.
Key Responsibilities


Examples of tasks to be accomplished

  • Fills holes, pavement slumps with stone dust, cold, hot or liquid asphalt or other materials.
  • 2. Cuts, tampers, and smoothes asphalt using tools provided, smoothes out irregularities and sponge surfaces, presses and seals joints, and ensures uniformity.
  • 3. Occasionally digs trenches and assists in the installation of forms and in the preparation and pouring of cement and concrete in connection with the repair or construction of catch basins, floors, sidewalks, steps, walkways, fences, walls or other structures.
  • 4. Collects household garbage, salvages large pieces, empties waste baskets that are placed on public roads and in parks.
  • 5. Clears snow from around municipal buildings and street furniture in streets, parks or elsewhere using a snow blower or otherwise, spreads abrasives in driveways, paths and alleys. Clears snow from roofs using necessary scaffolding and appropriate manual or mechanical methods. Installs, removes and stores no trespassing signs
- parking during snow removal operations and acts as a helper on various motorized equipment and as a flagman in front of the snowblower.

  • 6. Installs and removes street furniture on public roads and in parks such as benches, waste baskets, signposts and others. Participates in the installation and removal of steel plates, fences of various types and others. Installs, removes and stores no parking signs during various road works.
  • 7. Assists trades or specialized employees as a handler in the execution of certain work.
  • 8. Cuts grass using a motorized hand mower or edge trimmer, installs tree guards and repairs damaged areas of grass.
  • 9. Sweeps or cleans the floor of the municipal garage or performs light maintenance tasks.
  • 10. Washes City vehicles.
Skills, knowledge & expertise


Profile required for this position:


  • Have a High School Diploma
  • Have a valid Provincial driver's license, class
  • Have a few years of experience relevant to the job
  • Have a good knowledge of French and English, spoken and written
  • Have a good knowledge of the safety measures to be observed
  • Ability to perform all kinds of manual work, work at height and use tools
  • Have a related professional degree
  • Have a class 3 driver's license (An asset)
