    AHS is looking for an Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) to join our Women and Children's Health team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital . MHRH is a full-service hospital that provides services in high need areas including: Women's Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery, and Mental Health. Reporting to the manager, the AHN is the first-level resource for all staff on the following units: Labour and Delivery, Maternal Child , Maternal Fetal Assessment Clinic, and Colposcopy clinic. MHRH Labour and Delivery includes 4 assessment beds, 6 labour beds, 2 pre-op beds, and 2 post anesthetic recovery room beds; Maternal Child unit includes 14-beds where the focus of care is Maternal-Child, gynecology, and low-risk medical-surgical patients; Maternal Fetal Assessment clinic focuses on prenatal care for high risk patients; Colposcopy clinic is a fast flow clinic caring for patients needing colposcopy procedure. The AHN is a clinical leader and mentor. The AHN provides leadership in facilitating, coordinating, and supporting the implementation of educational initiatives that impact the nursing units. You are responsible for assisting in the delivery of educational and operational needs which includes legislation, continuing competencies, quality improvement, strategic planning, or organizational AHN will liaise and collaborate with both internal and external partners within Women and Children's Health. Knowledge of AHS policies /procedures, code of conduct, vision and principles as well as professional standards of practice and applicable Alberta legislations are required to guide safe, quality practice. You will help lead and mentor the team, provide front-line clinical support, allocate resources, and conduct staff meetings.     Description:

    As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).     Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

    Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree.Prior experience as an AHN/team lead. Demonstrate excellent assessment, organizational, patient care, and leadership skills. Experience providing educational support to adult learners. Certification(s) /training in relevant specialty area including: NRP, FHS, MoreOB , ACORN, Breastfeeding, bladder scanning, IV initiation, management, drug administration and blood administration, spinal /epidural anesthesia, HELP (STORK), and knowledge of perinatal pathways.
