Business Need/Purpose of Role:


The Industrial Controls Technician will provide support to production by troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining production equipment according to all safety legislation and safety rules.

The Industrial Controls Technician will be expected to diagnose equipment malfunction, determine root cause and initiate immediate and long-term corrective actions.


Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate, commission, configure, install and troubleshoot all pneumatic, electronic, electrical, mechanical and analytical instrumentation devices.
  • Calibrate and repair analytical instrumentation that monitors or controls flow, level, temperature, pressure, acidity, conductivity and humidity.
  • Inspect malfunctioning or damaged equipment to identify sources of problems and report findings to Maintenance Manager to determine next possible solutions.
  • Develop and design control systems logic.
  • Troubleshoot, configure and repair PLC systems, HMI and SCADA.
  • Ensure that test procedures are performed safely in accordance to Weir specifications and guidelines.
  • Communicate with third party manufacturers as needed.
  • Support maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and repair controls related issues.
  • Research, recommend and design process improvement projects.
  • Observe all safety requirements.
  • Other required knowledge, skills and abilities:_
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Attention to detail and positive attitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve and make independent decisions
  • Willingness to learn ability to take instructions and learn quickly.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule so that work can get done outside of production hours.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Education:


  • Relevant postsecondary or equivalent required. Diploma or degree in engineering or a relevant field is an asset (i.e. Automation / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Technology)

Experience:


  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Must have Experience with Allen Bradley
  • Siemens is an asset.
