Environmental Technician (NOCC #2231) SUMMER STUDENT POSITION


Family oriented, waterfront recreational cottagers association recreational park with 245 units in Georgian Bay Township is looking for a SUMMER STUDENT POSITION- ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN responsible for working on a special project for the association location in Port Severn Ontario focussed on mapping, reviewing, planning and documenting the parks water, and waste systems, in cooperation with the parks maintenance staff, as well as review, upkeep and management of the parks environmentally sensitive waterways, wetlands, and forest trails.

The role will also work with our Docks committee to review, association member dock repairs and replacement proposals and the TSW and Park permit process.


We are looking for a friendly, positive, service oriented and professional individual with the ability to work flexible hours including some weekends as needed to support the operations of the association.

This is a full time summer student seasonal position that will run from May through end of August 2022.

The hours are 830am-430pm

By performing the following tasks, under the direction of the Chair of the Community Environmental Committee and with the expertise of park maintenance staff, this full-time seasonal position is responsible for the review of sensitive areas of this Trent/Severn property within the Wildwood by the Severn campground:

Prepare:
1) detailed drawings of all holding tanks, pumps, drains, waterlines, valves and shut offs on the property, and

2) detailed drawings of all electrical lines, breaker panels and transformers

  • Create accurate drawings (allowing for future updates) from some existing rudimentary sketches of the property
  • Review our community nature trails and provide advice on care and maintenance
  • In order to preserve the quality of our natural habitat, work with the Community Environmental Committee, local, provincial and federal authorities to identify and control invasive flora and fauna, on/in the lands and waterways of the property.


Responsible for the review, identification of invasive aquatic plants and the ongoing removal of them as well as care and upkeep of the associations critical waterways and equipment.


  • Investigate and provide advice on shoreline restoration for Trent/Severn waterways

Job Requirements:


  • College student or university student in Environmental Technology, preferably from local college or university program like Georgian College Will also consider graduated high school student who is registered to attend first year post secondary studies in the fall.
  • Effective customer service skills to deal courteously and effectively with the staff, the membership, and government officials
  • Basic knowledge of small power equipment (lawnmower, grass trimmer, chain saw, small boat & motor)
- comfortable in and around water with the ability to swim for safety reasons

  • As we are a highly seasonal operation, you will receive vacation pay with each pay period versus vacation time off during the period of this appointment.
  • Valid driver's licence is an asset
  • Ability to opererate the parks UTV/Mule/Golf Cart safely
  • As this job involves bending, lifting, moving, and working outdoors near waterways, over uneven ground etc
No benefits, hourly wage.
