Departmental Overview
PRIMED Medical Products Manufacturing Ltd.'s ("PRIMED Ontario")

Production team is dedicated to the manufacturing of the highest quality medical devices that will deliver on our mission:
to protect people from harmful substances and infectious disease.

This includes responsibility over all aspects of the product from raw material to finished goods while adhering to safety protocols, manufacturing best practices, and PRIMED's Quality Management System.


Position Function

The Packer is a key member of the Production team and carries out the final packing of finished cartons into shipping cases.

They will move quickly and takes pride in the work completed in a fast-paced, high-speed environment.

As part of the final stage of the manufacturing process, the Packer is responsible for moving the finished cartons (inner box) of product from the production line into the packing area.

There they will perform packaging related tasks like placing empty cases onto conveyors, operating taping machines, and manually packing goods into cases.

The role will require setup, loading, and operation of the packing machine with the established procedures and guidelines.

Adjustments to the machine to meet different specifications will be required and a commitment to high quality with mínimal wasted materials and time is key.


Working Relationships
The Packer will report to the Warehouse Supervisor and Team Lead.

Communication with fellow team members including Warehouse Associate, Line Operators and mechanics will ensure continuous packing of the correct product at the correct specifications.


Responsibilities
The following is a list of the high-level activities or deliverables with the goal to maximize production and reduce waste to the manufacturing line through process efficiencies:

  • Perform startup activities to ensure proper machine startup and operation on multiple pieces of equipment
  • Operate the packing machine based on established Quality Management System requirements and Work Instructions including:
  • Loading flattened cardboard boxes, labels, and tape
  • Adjusting machine based to enhance efficiency
  • Repositioning and restart of the box forming and taping line
  • Operate Inner Box Printing Machine and make required adjustments when needed.
  • Operate and monitor multiple pieces of equipment to minimize unplanned stops
  • Perform quality checks on product boxes prior to packing and identify any issues regarding nonconforming product per Quality Management System
  • On a cart, manually move finished cartons from production line to packing area
  • Lift, count, and organize cases onto pallet in prescribed patterns and move pallets as required
  • May be required to obtain license to operate and maintain pump pallet truck
  • Communicate with and support other team members to ensure continuous production at high quality levels with mínimal waste
  • Regularly inspect and perform good housekeeping of work environment
  • Aid during line changeover including counting raw materials, cleaning area, removing garbage, etc.
  • Follow all plant rules and safety regulations
  • Cross train and provide back up to the team as required
  • Support Plant Manager with special projects and work flow improvements, as required.

Working Conditions
Attention is shifted from one job task to another frequently during the day. This is a hands-on role; therefore, time and priority management abilities in addition to excellent communication skills are essential.

Other conditions and requirements of the role include:

  • Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Repetitive tasks, standing and moving around for extended periods of time
  • Must wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplied
  • Wear steel toed shoes
  • Lifting, dumping and stacking 1040 lbs boxes of product
  • Ability to read English, Work Instructions, Manuals, and other documents
  • Work independently and collaborate in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and be a minimum age of 18 years old
  • Fluent in English and able to communicate effectively with teammates
  • Experience as a machine operator or packer in a fastpaced environment is an asset
  • Good attendance record required
  • Ability to handle extended periods of static tasks with alertness but also the ability to multitask
  • Positive attitude and willingness to develop new skill as manufacturing increases
  • Attention to detail and ability to find defects in product streams
  • Previous experience in an ISO 13485 or GMP basics are an asset
  • Ability to work in a start up like environment with growth and evolution on the horizon.
