The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Transactions & Treasury the Team Lead Payables, Billings and Reconciliations (Team Lead) assists in the oversight of the corporate transactions and treasury functions of the Financial Services and Treasury Department.

IWK Health has total centre-wide expenditures and revenues exceeding $300 million, including operating, provincial programs, research, innovation and restricted funds.

This position assists in developing procedures for the operational management of staff resources in the areas of accounts payable, billings/collections, payroll services, banking/treasury functions and internal controls.

This position is also responsible for the preparation and analysis of various balance sheet and other reconciliations as it relates to accounts payable, billings/collections and payroll services.


The Team Lead assists with the timely and efficient payment of vendor invoices and staff reimbursements by ensuring payments meet all policy requirements.

The Team Lead maintains a close relationship with IWK Health's financial institution to ensure IWK Health is always using the most effective banking technologies.

The Team Lead has oversight of the petty cash program to ensure effectiveness within a strong control environment.


The Team Lead assists in the oversight of the revenue process and all inpatient, outpatient and client revenue enhancements with a goal of maximization of supplemental revenue, reduction of bad debt expenditures and enhancement of the patient experience.

The Team Lead assists in ensuring that the allowance for doubtful accounts, and all other receivables reconciliations, are accurate and properly valued.


The Team Lead works in conjunction with the Manager and the entire team in identifying improvements in current practices in to enhance internal controls and increase efficiencies.

The Team Lead ensures exceptional service delivery is provided to its internal and external clients.

The Team Lead maintains close relationships with the other areas of the Financial Services & Treasury Department, Supplies & Distribution, Facilities & Energy Management Services, Admitting/Registration and CWSResearch Services and Human Resources.


Hours of Work:

37.5 hours/week; Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:00pm

This is a hybrid position - work from home and in office (when needed)


Your Qualifications:


  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration / Commerce or equivalent required. Equivalent combination of education, certification, and related experience may be considered
  • Holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA), or completed the Common Final Exam (CFE) and are working towards the experience, required
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in financial administration required
  • Minimum two (2) years' leadership experience required, preferably in a financial services environment
  • An equivalent combination of education, certification and related experience may be considered
  • Experience in a healthcare / clinical setting is considered an asset
  • Indepth understanding and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and computing (such as SAP and MEDITECH) system required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong presentation skills
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated Leadership skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to execute through effective delegation, motivation and oversight considered an asset
