Program Manager, BScN Program


The Program Manager, BScN Program provides effective and efficient management of the operational activities, policies and delivery of all streams of the BScN Program, including the collaborative program offered with School of Nursing College partners.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Programs, the Program Manager will work with the Assistant Dean and other members of the Management team to provide strategic, operational and financial advice to support sound decision-making related to the Undergraduate Nursing Program.


KEY FUNCTIONS

Strategic Planning / Management

  • Work with the Assistant Dean Undergraduate Nursing Program to develop, implement and monitor the strategic plan for the BScN program
  • Implement strategic initiatives approved by the Nursing Education Steering Committee for the BScN Collaboration
  • Facilitate discussions with Consortium partners on strategic initiatives in accordance with the overall strategic plan for the BScN Program
  • Conduct market research to determine viability of new programs, and work with the Manager of Finance and Administration to develop business cases for new initiatives
  • Participate in the development and implementation of both short and longterm plans to ensure the effective and efficient use of all program related resources.
  • Work with academic leaders and senior management to define projects, assign priorities, allocate staff and monitor progress of new and existing projects
  • Create and implement needs assessment surveys for a variety of program purposes
  • Contribute to the development of business plans focused on student enrollment, collaborations with other education institutions and academic programs, costeffectiveness and responsiveness to student, faculty and staff needs

Program Management and Planning

  • Plan, coordinate and manage all administrative functions related to the operation of the BScN Program (e.g., admissions, academic advising)
  • Manage clinical placement coordination
  • Manage special projects and initiatives
  • Provide administrative direction regarding the goals and objectives of the program by examining, reviewing and assessing longterm and immediate needs
  • Identify and analyze issues and prepare recommendations for review and approval by the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Program
  • Provide options and make recommendations on issues related to the overall operation of the Program
  • Develop, implement, and manage program marketing strategies
  • Develop program policies and procedures in collaboration with the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Program
  • Analyze information and develop reports such as accreditation documents and briefing notes for review by administration
  • Develop content and approve the design of web pages
  • Manage the physical resources of the program by controlling inventory, equipment and space
  • Prepare documents for and participate in discussions related to allocation of faculty resources across sites
  • Oversee the student registration process from design to final grades including the submission of final grades, coordinating the academic awards nomination process, and overseeing orientation and graduation activities
  • Plan and develop course scheduling at McMaster and College partner sites

Financial Management

  • Develop, monitor and control BScN program budgets for review and approval by the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Program
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Dean Undergraduate Nursing Program and other SON senior management, determine priorities and develop, recommend and implement the annual operating budget
  • Authorize expenditures and audit all accounts and revenue generating functions and ensure compliance with university and departmental budget policies and financial procedures
  • Ensure preparation of all appropriate reporting and year end documentation and conduct formal review of all accounts on a monthly basis
  • Implement and maintain the program budget.
  • Prepare background financial documents for the Manager, Finance and Administration
  • Exercise appropriate controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts
  • Develop estimate of time, resources, and budgets for various program activities and events

Human Resources Management

  • Ensure provision of effective support services assigned to Assistant Dean, Leads, courses, instructors and students
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring and orienting staff
  • Provide direct supervision of support staff: Academic Advisors, Program Coordinator, Admissions Coordinator, and Administrative Assistants
  • Oversee all work done by staff in all areas of the Program

  • Ensure adherence to University policies and contracts
