Unsafe at Home Ottawa Crisis Line & Shelter Support Worker (casual)

  • Interval House of Ottawa is a 38bed emergency home for those fleeing VAW/GBV and their dependents, and is the only shelter in Ottawa that provides onsite housing for their pets._

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning through text and chat in both English and French.
  • Ensure that service is accessible to all users by accessing communication and interpretive services as requested.
  • Assess level of risk of clients and execute emergency measures and safety planning as necessary.
  • Assess requests for shelter services according to eligibility requirements of local shelters.
  • Assess with clients what resources might best suit their needs.
  • Provide referrals to communitybased services.
  • Arrange for transportation and emergency services as needed.
  • Provide support services to residents of IHO while keeping the UAHO crisis line as a priority.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of shelter spaces in Ottawa and Lanark County.
  • Maintain chatter, program, statistical and agency records in compliance with policies and procedures and ensuring confidentiality as required by legislation.
  • Establish and maintain links with community groups and agencies and facilitate referrals and positive working relationships.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Social Service Worker Diploma (SSW), Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or equivalent in experience, education and training
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience working directly with survivors of VAW/GBV
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to intersectional feminist principles
  • Knowledge of Violence Against Women and Gender-Based Violence issues
  • Knowledge of legal, financial, housing, employment and training resources in the community
  • Experience in community development
  • Knowledge and proficiency in program development, delivery and evaluation
  • Strong public speaking and public education skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Multitasking abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of diverse communities
  • Ability to promote teamwork and strength in a volunteer and staff group
  • Ability to communicate
    fluently in English and French is required. Ability to communicate in other languages is an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be comfortable interacting with animals that are housed onsite
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification is required
  • As a condition of employment, all employees must have and provide proof of full COVID19 immunization. Where a person is unable to vaccinate for human rights protected reasons, an accommodation may be provided

COMPENSATION & HOURS
- $26.77 per hour

  • 6hours shifts (primarily weekends, daytime and evening)
  • Must be available to replace staff on short notice
  • Must be available for shifts on weekdays, weekends, daytimes, evenings, and statutory holidays including New Year's Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

  • La Maison Interval d'Ottawa est un foyer d'urgence comprenant 38 lits. Elle accueille les personnes fuyant la violence contre les femmes ou fondée sur le sexe et les personnes à leur charge. C'est le seul refuge d'Ottawa qui offre un hébergement sur place pour leurs animaux domestiques._

RÉSUMÉ DU POSTE


Sous la supervision de la/du gestionnaire de programme et dans le cadre du partenariat communautaire _Pas bien chez soi_ et de l'équipe de la Maison Interval d'Ottawa (MIO), la travailleuse/le travailleur de soutien au refuge et à la ligne d'assistance _Pas bien chez soi à Ottawa_ (occasionnelle/occasionnel) offre un soutien immédiat et adapté aux personnes victimes de violence dans leur foyer.

En outre, elle/il aide les personnes résidant à la MIO à naviguer dans le système, à faire des demandes de logement, à résoudre des conflits, à obtenir un soutien émotionnel et à répondre aux besoins quotidiens.

La/le titulaire de ce poste travaille sur place à la MIO.


RESPONSABILITÉS ET TÂCHES PRINCIPALES

  • Fournir des interventions en cas de crise et des plans de sécurité au moyen de messages textes et de clavardage en français et en anglais.
  • Veiller à ce que le service soit accessible à toutes les utilisatrices et utilisateurs en faisant appel à des services de communication et d'interprétation sur demande.
