    Unit Summary

    Ward 4B provides gynecological support and care to women and their families. Care is provided for women with reproductive health concerns, both of a surgical and medical nature. Care is also provided to women during the antepartum and postpartum phases of pregnancy as part of the high risk tertiary services to women in Central-West and Central-South Ontario.

    As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care, provides nursing care to meet clients needs and guides/directs the team in meeting those needs.

    Qualifications

    1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
    2. Current BCLS certification
    3. Successful completion of a recognized Perinatal Certificate Program (within the last 5 years), or evidence of current work in progress
    4. Recent (within the last 2 years) experience and knowledge of the nursing care of women requiring surgical or medical interventions for reproductive health issues
    5. Recent (within the last 2 years) experience and knowledge of the nursing care of antepartum and postpartum women in a tertiary care setting
    6. Experience with post-operative pain management including PCA and epidurals
    7. Vascular access therapy skills
    8. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability in the physical, social and emotional nursing care of women in gynecological and obstetrical settings
    9. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability in providing pre- and post-operative and obstetrical health teaching to women
    10. Ability to provide non-judgmental, supportive care to women
