  • About this OpportunityThe School of Environmental Studies (SES) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary unit with a strong emphasis on engaged, field and problem-based learning. We offer a BA or BSc (with a requirement of a double-major), MA and MSc, and PhD degrees, and partner to deliver certificate, diploma, and professional development certificate programs in the Restoration of Natural Systems program and the newly launched certificate in Transformative Climate Action. Our research and teaching seek to bridge the natural and social sciences and humanities to provide students with the range of skills, knowledge and experience necessary to address contemporary environmental challenges. This requires an ongoing commitment to curricular innovation, community engagement, and reflective practice.

The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range:
$68,897- $75,964
starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.


Performance range:
starting salary to max of $89,609
is available through annual performance increases.

  • Job SummaryObjectives:
  • Improve current processes and optimize procedures to ensure the School or Department operates smoothly and effectively.
  • Oversee office operations and planning, financial management and assistance to the School Director or Department Chair.
  • Support the School or Department leadership to meet longterm planning and academic goals.
  • Supervise administrative staff including recruiting, performance development, coaching, and workload management.
  • Job RequirementsThis position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent an undergraduate degree plus three years of related administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to gather, synthesize, evaluate, and interpret information from a variety of sources.
  • Superior communication skills
  • Proactive judgement and initiative to manage day to day operations of a complex unit
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven track record achieving project goals on time and producing deliverables.
  • Familiarity with and interest in the School or Department, and area of study.
  • Knowledge of UVic's, roles, policies, and systems is preferred.
