    The Opportunity



    We are looking for a Markets and Term Power Specialist to join our Energy and Risk Management team. Reporting to the Manager, Portfolio Optimization you will be responsible for the evaluation and execution of both physical and financial term power transactions as well as running and maintaining the power system model in Hitatchi Portfolio Optimization (PortOps) software and coordinating with various internal and external groups and counterparties.





    Key elements of this role include:

    • Issuing and evaluating near and medium-term physical power deals.
    • Coordinating with legal team on term sheet and EEI contract execution.
    • Transacting and record keeping of financial power transactions.
    • Performance tracking and reporting on contract performance.
    • Completing system forecasts and backcasts in PortOps.
    • Maintaining PortOps system model with up-to-date system parameters.
    • Working with other departments and stakeholders as a subject matter expert on NS Power's system and market.
    • Development of customer cost estimates and marginal prices as required.
    • Providing support and responding to inquiries from stakeholders on regulatory process as required.

    To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

    An Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Science is required with preference given to those candidates with a master's degree or CFA designation and/or a minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience. Preference will also be given to individuals having experience with working in a utility or industrial production environment.

    The successful candidate is also expected have:

    • Experience in Northeast power markets including scheduling and transacting physical and financial power.
    • Knowledge of generation assets and fuel types.
    • The ability to coordinate the activities within a cross-functional group to achieve business objectives.
    • A high level of attention to detail and the ability to summarize and communicate information effectively through the organization.
    • Willingness and the ability to continuously acquire new skills and develop capabilities evolving with the changing system and regulatory compliance requirements.
    • Advanced skills in Excel.
    • Ability to develop advanced skills in system dispatch and fuel consumption optimization tools, such as PortOps and Plexos.
    • The ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks/projects.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
