Department Overview
External Ecosystems is part of Enterprise Digital, Payments & Innovation. The role of External Ecosystems is to elevate TD's partnerships, acquisitions and strategic relationships across and accelerator. Fintech, Big Tech, startup and industry ecosystems. External Ecosystems leads TD's approach to Open Banking and Marketplaces and the advancement of TD's Digital Identity agenda


Reporting to the AVP, Investments and Partnerships, the Manager, Fintech Innovation will be accountable for identifying fintechs with strong value propositions, articulating the value and accelerating the Bank's transformation through partnerships with Fintechs.

This role will collaborate with both internal business stakeholders and Fintechs to identify opportunities through partnerships and share that knowledge bankwide via enablement tools and governing forms.


Accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Working with business stakeholders to understand their priorities, uncover problems, and determine unmet needs and market opportunities
  • Identify potential Fintech partners and solutions that will enhance customer experiences, drive revenue and cost savings, and reduce risk both today and in the future
  • Articulating actionable steps to partner with Fintechs, including fintech value proposition and potentially the design and execution of proofsofconcepts
  • Staying at the forefront of market developments related to emerging technologies and business models and understand the implications, opportunities and threats for Business Lines
  • Acting as a conduit and anchor between the fintech ecosystem and internal partners by making strategic connections, fostering communication, and knowledge exchange
  • Analyzing the marketplace to understand key trends in FinTech and emerging technologies, and supporting the production of thought leadership documents on trends
  • Supporting the preparation of presentations and material to disseminate knowledge harnessed from fintechs to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring continuous alignment to the business strategy (i.e. governance forum decks, fintech/big tech disruption landscape)
  • Authoring points of view and whitepapers on emerging topics
  • Delivering and supporting "the fintech hub" online enterprise fintech knowledge base
  • Small scale experimentation to determine potential business models, forecasted business valuation, advance learning on emerging topics and assess bank risk appetite
  • Identifying opportunities to communicate and spread awareness

Job Requirements

  • 57 years of experience in the financial services industry with a Bank or Fintech and strong knowledge of financial products
  • Possess an Intrinsic curiosity about FinTech and Banking (core banking, business banking, insurance, wealth management, etc), and pursue new ideas and understand how they can be applied in financial services
  • Strong business, technical and digital fluency
  • Excellent communication with an ability to bridge the gap between the business, technology and risk management functions
  • Aptitude for thought leadership and a passion for driving innovation and emerging technologies
  • Strong bias for action; ability to create a sense of urgency in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Great relationship management and influencing skills to ensure continuous business support from key stakeholders
  • A desire to work in a fastpaced, challenging, and dynamic environment
