Description

We are seeking to fill a
Project Quality Manager / Quality Assurance Discipline Leader role to support Arup's major infrastructure projects in Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa, and to develop a long-term capability within the Americas region to support similar, present and future projects within the Arup Americas region (Canada and USA).

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Toronto. The role will report to the region Arup Management System Manager.


Key job responsibilities include:


  • Develop and maintain design quality manuals, policies, and procedures in conformance with the contract requirements.
  • Liaise with the project manager during subcontractor and or supplier evaluation to establish the suitability of subcontractor Quality management practices.
  • Liaise with client quality representative when required.
  • Plan and conduct internal and second party quality assurance audits to ensure conformance with the client and contract requirements.
  • Ensure followup on any identified nonconformities, and client complaints by conducting investigations, developing corrections and corrective actions, and overseeing their effectiveness.
  • Support the project leadership to establish project risk registers and to monitor risk management activities regularly.
  • Identify training needs and perform quality assurance training to project teams.
  • Develop required quality assurance reports and provide inputs to other project management reports as needed.
  • Assure ongoing compliance with project quality assurance and regulatory requirements and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage, train and coach other quality assurance staff, and other project members when necessary.
  • Substantiate the quality conformance of project deliverables and services during the project lifecycle.
  • Supervise other project quality managers working on similar projects within the region.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for development of the project quality management capability within the region. The strategy should consider existing and anticipated project needs, hiring and training strategy, succession planning.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or in a related engineering discipline
  • A minimum seven years of experience as a Project Quality Manager for engineering design and / or construction projects
  • Professional qualification in engineering and / or quality management
  • The following qualification are a plus:
  • ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor Training
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Good working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for teambased working
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and determine course of action.
  • Strong networking, interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to effectively conduct different types of audits in a professional, ethical, and objective manner.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with programs used to gather, analysis and reports (i.e., spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.)
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and exceptional organization skills required for our rapidly changing environment.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
