As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles.


The GO Expansion scope:

new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

The Chief of Development is responsible for end-to-end product development (up to validation & certification).

This means you will ensure that the agreed (platform) product is developed on time, within the agreed budget and with the right quality & performance.

You will lead cross-functional train development activities involving all project stakeholders (e.g. Engineering, Procurement, Industrialization, Services) and coordinate sub-system managers during the development phase. You will also endorse design authority and related decisions or trade-offs.


You will report directly to:


  • Metier family: Engineering.
  • Hierarchically, reports directly to the Project Manager.
  • Functionally, reports to the Site Engineering Director.

Key Accountabilities:


  • With Project Manager / Director and project team (e.g.

quality, costs, contracts, planning):

  • Represents the technical authority in front of the customer and interfaces directly for major topics (e.g. design approval, VO, major noncompliances).
  • Ensures compliance with contract technical requirements.
  • Is responsible for Train level Development Work Packages QCD.
  • Reports on product development progress.
  • Escalates development issues and decisions to be taken at the project level.
  • With the project development team (incl.

sub-systems Manager):

  • Sets and allocates technical and QCD objectives.
  • Coordinates and monitors crossfunctional activities and deliverables, Development Planning, Configuration & Change Management, Design For Operations, and Design For Services.
  • Makes key crossfunctional or technical decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Represents the design authority and ensures product liability, adherence to platform product and compliance with Alstom standards.
  • Manages technical risks and defines mitigation plans.

Educational Requirements:


  • Mandatory:
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering (mechanical or electrical)
  • Desirable:
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration and/or Project Management.
  • Professional Engineer designation as per Canadian regulations.

Experience:


  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Railway Operations, engineering, systems and ET maintenance.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken. A second language is appreciated.
  • Interpersonal skills (teamwork and leadership).
