PROGRAM SUMMARY:


Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22 unit supported housing project offering long-term tenancies and short-term emergency stays for people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.


Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is developed in partnership with BC Housing, the Town of Smithers and Smithers Community Services Association.

Together we provide program participants with affordable housing, meals, case planning, social and recreation activities, and other training and workshops.

The units are bachelor style and designed for single occupancy, two are wheelchair accessible.


To be considered eligible for supportive housing an individual must be experiencing homelessness or be at risk of becoming homeless.

***: The Support Worker will work directly with program participants to provide the supports needed to help them remain appropriately housed. The Support Worker is responsible for case planning, meal preparation and service, housekeeping, and other duties as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide supports to Program Participants, to help maintain their occupancy.
  • Case planning and Program Participant needs assessment.
  • Room decluttering, normal cleaning and maintenance, including laundry.
  • Connection to community supports and services such as education, employment, health and life skills and independent residential tenancy opportunities when appropriate;
  • Assistance with obtaining Income Assistance, Pension Benefits, Disability Benefits, BC Identification Card, and establishing a bank account as appropriate.
  • Other support services as may be determined in enhancing the Program Participant's ability to maintain a healthy, independent life and eventually maintain a productive independent tenancy.
  • Encouragement to participants to help with maintaining the facility.
  • Front desk security services and measures including wellness checks.
  • Assistance with meal service (cold breakfast, hot dinner).
  • Housekeeping and laundry.
  • Completes data entry and progress notes as required.
  • Adheres to all Health/Safety and Emergency procedures including universal precautions.
  • Attends staff meetings and actively participates in discussions, presentations, chair and minute taking as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Some training and experience in a similar position or a combination of relevant training and experience an asset.
Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with people who are experiencing homelessness and homelessness related issues.
  • Knowledge and experience working with trauma and crisis management.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture an asset.
  • First aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe.
Skills and Abilities

  • Able to:
- effectively engage with multi-barrier adult clients; employ crisis intervention skills and active listening skills.
- demonstrate the ability to work well as a team player in a high demand capacity.

  • Basic Level 1 technical skills required.
Working Conditions

  • Shift work that involves days, evenings/overnight, and weekend shifts.
  • 12 hour shifts, 8am8pm, 8pm8am.
  • This is a temporary full time position, until return of incumbent, student visa will not be eligible for this position.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Work requires moderate level of physical effort and/or dexterity, e.g. using or moving medium weight kg.) equipment or materials, reaching overhead, bending/stooping, lifting, working from ladders etc.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Be familiar with and adhere to the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Association.
  • Represent the Association positively and professionally at all times.
  • Understand and be committed to terms of confidentiality, and sign a pledge of confidentiality.
  • Undergo a Criminal Record Search as and when required by the Association.
  • Actively participate in regular performance evaluations.
