Job Summary:

The Manager, Data Centre & Network Systems is responsible for the ongoing management of the Library's data centre and network infrastructure; has direct responsibility for the IT Network and Server Team responsible for the security, installation, configuration, operations, backup and decommissioning of the library's servers storage and wired and wireless network infrastructure; The incumbent performs capacity planning to mitigate business risks resulting from systems outages and plans for future expansion based on changing business and technical requirements; supervises daily operations affecting IT systems across the Library, network and server security and technologies supporting identity management.

The incumbent is responsible for ongoing staff development and performance management.


This position has specific PCI (Payment Card Industry) duties and responsibilities, including responsibility for a significant amount of network configuration, auditing, documentation and monitoring, and ensuring the compliance of work assigned to technical resources on the staff team.

This position has access to highly sensitive and business critical data from all Library departments.


Job Requirements:


Education/Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Current Cisco Certification (CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Certification in data centre management is highly desirable.

Experience:


  • Minimum 8 years related experience in network, server and data centre operations.
  • At least 4 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience working in the public sector is an asset.

Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of Data Centre facilities and process: e.g., sub floor and/or overhead cable/fibre plant installation and planning; cooling systems; UPS and utility power capabilities; device and cabinet power distribution options; data centre space optimization and planning; data centre fire suppression technology; remote monitoring and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data centre processes and practices in a wide range of organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various data network technologies, including various media, including fibre and wireless media, thorough knowledge WAN and LAN's, and of network and communications hardware such as routers, bridges, switches, Firewalls, and VPN's; thorough knowledge of communications software and protocols such as TCP/IP, GRE Tunnelling, VRF, xDSL, T1, 802.11x, OSPF and EIGRP; mail protocols, WiFi, DNS
  • Thorough Knowledge of monitoring and reporting tools
  • Broad knowledge of IT systems processes, practices and tool sets across a range of infrastructure environments (e.g., virtual machines, servers, mainframes, cloud)
  • Broad knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and practices and detailed knowledge of Capacity Management, Availability Management, Problem Management and Incident Management processes.
  • Knowledge of current trends, standards, and products in areas of responsibility and Information Technology
  • Broad knowledge of basic business skills: Ability to prepare reports in clear and nontechnical language; Excellent oral, written and presentation/facilitation skills, with ability to communicate at all levels within the organization; Thorough working knowledge of office productivity tools
  • Broad knowledge of library operations: e.g., organizational structure, key players, current business processes and supporting systems and services, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and proactively manage contractual agreements with external suppliers and third parties
  • Demonstrated operational and project management skills: resultsfocused, teamoriented.
  • Demonstrated people management skills: coaching, mentoring, development and performance management.
