Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals.
The Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The MCH is a 150-bed hospital with a 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, an 8-bed step down unit, a 52- bed Neonatal Intensive Care unit, and 56 pediatric inpatient beds.
The Pediatric Palliative Care Team is comprised of four physicians, a nurse, a nurse practitioner, and a bereavement follow up coordinator, with additional access to social services and spiritual care.
Our team provides interdisciplinary care to infants, children, adolescents, and selected young adults with serious advanced illness; we also provide care to their families within the McGill University hospital network both in hospital and at home.
The first Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada pediatric palliative care-training program in Quebec was approved in 2023 and will be an integral part of the team's academic mission with the first fellow to begin in 2025.
Clinician-scientists are also members of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) joining one of the eight active research programs at the RI-MUHC.
Fundamental scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Translational Biology, while clinical scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation.
Job Duties:
Research and other academic activities are encouraged and supported. Participation in the Pediatric Palliative Medicine subspecialty training program is expected.
Physicians in the Division of Pediatric Palliative Medicine are also expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the education and professional development of nurses and nurse practitioners.
1) _Clinical service FTE):_The focus of clinical work will be in Pediatric Palliative Medicine with additional opportunities in the Division of General Pediatrics or another division in the Department of Pediatrics, depending on training and expertise
2) _Education/Research/Other_ Academic FTE):_
Participation in departmental and divisional academic activities such as research, teaching, quality improvement, and program development is required. Two priority areas include Perinatal Palliative Care and the Royal College accredited Pediatric Palliative Medicine training program
McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Hold an MD degree, and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the Province of Quebec;
- Have completed postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics;
- Have completed specialty training in Pediatric Palliative Medicine with certification by the _Collège des médecins du Québec_ or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
- Applicants to a clinicianscientist position are expected to have a minimum of 2 years of dedicated research training. A postgraduate degree (e.g.
