Ministry of Emergency Management & Climate Readiness (EMCR) leads provincial emergency and disaster risk management, builds and fosters collaborative relationships and partnerships, advances meaningful and lasting reconciliation, and supports all peoples in British Columbia to reduce disaster risk.


The Strategic Partnership Division works with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), First Nations Leadership Council (FNLC), First Nations (FN) Communities, First Nations Support Organizations (e.g., FNESS), emergency management stakeholders from all levels of government, the private sector and non-governmental organizations to lead and coordinate emergency management planning/preparedness; response; recovery and mitigation efforts for First Nation Communities on Reserve Lands, as outlined in a ten year bilateral service agreement between EMCR and ISC.

The Division is responsible for the management of the service agreement and its effective delivery, as well as for establishing long term vision, goals and strategies aimed at enhancing First Nation Communities capabilities and capacity to address all hazards, strengthening their disaster resilience.


The Partnerships Coordinator coordinate First Nations engagement and share information with staff and partners on the four pillars of emergency management including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.


Job Requirements:


Education and Experience:


  • Diploma or higher in a related field (eg.
First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc) and 1 years related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities;
OR,:


  • Certificate in a related field (e.g., First Nations engagement or consultation, Public Administration, etc.)
and 2 years related experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities;
OR,:


  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and facilitating special events, workshops or working sessions with external partners using an Indigenous Centered Service approach.
  • Experience developing and implementing tracking and monitoring systems.
  • Experience typing, formatting, and proofreading a variety of documents and materials in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,).

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • 2 years or more experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Experience conducting research and providing findings and recommendations to support program, product or service development that are culturally relevant.
  • Travel overnight, occasionally, and on operational deployments, up to 2 weeks, to locations anywhere in the province.
  • Work oncall and extended hours during emergency activations
