Description

This is a full-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Manager, IT Operations & Security working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $33.38, based at the Lambton College site in Ottawa.


  • The incumbent is a highly customer service orientated individual with the motivation and skill sets/training to solve the majority of IT requests. Provides IT support to both students and employees and provides direct computer lab support for program delivery.
  • The incumbent will provide support for:
  • Desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices & peripherals
  • Network equipment/interfaces/protocols
  • Server software and configuration
  • IT asset management, configuration, documentation
  • Audio/visual and multimedia support & maintenance
  • Computer lab support
  • The incumbent will be responsible for one on one and group training sessions

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Operation Support Services
  • Provides Collegewide (Ottawa campus and remote locations) IT support
  • Configure, install, deploy, and support:
  • Mobile devices and peripherals using standard processes and procedures
  • Computer hardware and peripherals using standard images & processes
  • Multimedia equipment/services
  • Network cabling and edge devices (switches, wireless access points)
  • Servers based on defined infrastructure standards

Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve:

  • All areas of the computing environment
  • Work with external vendors to resolve problems
  • Edge/distribution network equipment, cabling, and protocols
  • Infrastructure components (e.g. Active Directory, DHCP, MS365, VMware)
  • Advanced multimedia equipment to support the principles of flexible learning

Lab Support- Demand Management:

  • Receives requests for software/description of need, investigates/researches requirements and solutions, tests/evaluates available products, recommends solutions, comes to an agreement on pricing, purchases product, maintains licensing records

Configure, install and deploy:

  • Maintain standard versions and configurations for all software packages and hardware in labs.
  • Collaborate with IT Infrastructure, Network Engineering, Client Engineering, and IT Change Management to ensure IT hardware and software meet standards.

Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve:

  • All hardware and software in the computing environment.
  • Work with software vendor technical support teams to resolve problems.
Supports other College systems and utilities; including planning, evaluating, testing, implementing, and maintaining systems approved by IT

  • IT Governance
  • Support the development and general use of an IT Service Catalogue and related service level agreements
  • Asset management (e.g. hardware, software, licenses, services)
  • Documentation
  • IT Operation reports (e.g. ticket metrics, Proof of Concept reports)
User Training- Performs on-demand customer help/training as required

  • Prepares and delivers formal training sessions
  • Conduct PD sessions delivered to College staff

Qualifications:

A minimum 2 year diploma required in; Computer Technician, Electronics Technician or equivalent
Minimum 3 years experience with Windows administration, software deployment and support required
Minimum 3 years of practical experience installing and maintaining computer hardware and software and multimedia equipment in a networked environment
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and verbal/written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system and system deployment concepts
Extensive knowledge of iOS, Android devices
High degree of initiative; ability to think analytically
