We are currently looking for a

Manager, Resource Planning, to join our System Planning and Grid Integration team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Director of System Planning and Grid Integration, you will lead a team of modeling professionals who explore various future resource options for the Nova Scotia Power system, meeting renewable electricity targets in a growing load environment while maintaining supply reliability. You will prioritize and balance your team's workload in an environment with multiple ongoing studies with parallel and competing deadlines.


This role will work closely with groups across the business including Enterprise Asset Management, Energy and Risk Management, Capital Projects, and the Nova Scotia Power System Operator to ensure that resource planning studies are completed in a timely manner and to ensure that pathways to achieving NS Power's system transformation are clearly and accurately modeled, evaluated, and communicated.


As Manager,

Resource Planning

you will:


  • Lead long term planning exercises such as Nova Scotia Power's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP.)
  • Review and QA/QC resource planning study outputs and results.
  • Prepare summary reports and present strategic results and findings to senior management.
  • Support regulatory initiatives including drafting evidence and responding to information requests.
  • Engage with external stakeholders regarding Nova Scotia Power's resource planning process and deliverables.
  • Lead a team of experienced resource planning professionals, including all NS Power people leadership accountabilities; enable your team to grow and develop in their careers.
  • Manage ongoing study portfolio and track deliverables against deadlines, reprioritizing amongst the team as required.
  • Join and support the analysis of industry technical working groups, representing Nova Scotia Power.
  • Provide technical support for other groups within NSPI.
  • Keep abreast of industry development, standards, regulations, codes, and best practices.
  • Contribute to a work environment based on mutual trust and respect while carrying out all work in a safe and effective manner.


You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.


What skills will make you successful?
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • Experience with PLEXOS or other energy modeling and optimization software would be considered a key differentiator for this role, and experience completing IRP or similar resource planning exercises would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, is a team player, possess a high level of initiative, has good oral and written communication skills, and works well under pressure. A valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • You must be able to function effectively in a team environment, but also be able to work independently.
  • You are a selfstarter with proven organizational and analytical skills and are comfortable managing multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as results presentation and report writing are integral to this position.
