Linux Systems Administrator.


At the heart of our institution's technological evolution, the Information Services team empowers students, faculty, and staff by delivering robust technological solutions.

As a vital member of this team, you'll report to the Manager of Instructional and Administrative Server Support, focusing primarily on Linux systems and technology.


What You'll Do:

System Administration: Manage and maintain assigned systems and software, ensuring reliability, security, and optimal performance.

Service Implementation: Deploy services based on best practices, vendor recommendations, and input from stakeholders to support the university's academic and administrative functions.

Proactive Monitoring: Ensure constant vigilance over services to detect and address potential issues before they impact operations.

Problem Resolution: Prioritize and resolve incoming problem reports and service requests efficiently, ensuring mínimal disruption to operations.

Automation: Streamline workflows by customizing software and developing automated solutions for routine tasks.

Position Requirements


What You'll Bring to the Position:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Five (5) years of applicable experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:

  • Demonstrated expertise in administering Linux computing systems. Experience with Windows server is an asset.
  • Proven ability to program in common languages and environments (e.g. Perl, Python, Unix shell scripting, Java) as well as experience managing LAMP environments.
  • Good knowledge of network and security principles.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative and collegial team member
  • Experience with virtualization (ESXi, KVM, Hyper-V, or other).
  • Experience managing computer systems in a heterogeneous environment
  • Experience participating in and implementing IT projects.
  • The ability to work occasional flex time to perform maintenance/upgrades/repairs outside of normal business hours.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 7 Salary Range $78,151 - $105,471 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours

36.25 hours/week, as per the APT collective agreement.
