GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position will work to provide programs and shopping for the congregate dining locations.

Provide direction in the provision of seniors' social/recreational programs and community and congregate dining; including coverage, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programming, and the training and scheduling of staff, students, and volunteers.

The Senior Programs Team Leader implements continuous quality improvement procedures to help ensure that programs offered meet the needs, interests, and preferences of clients.

This position reports to the Senior
Manager, Community Support and is part of
CUPE 7797.

MAJOR DUTIES:


  • Schedule the work of staff, volunteers and students, arrange coverage and fill in when team members are ill or on vacation and provide direction at the request of the Senior Manager.
  • Arrange for staff professional development, assist in training staff, students and volunteers and monitor their schedules. In the case of students, prepare evaluations and maintain contact with their placement supervisors, if required
  • Implement The Neighbourhood Group's continuous quality improvement procedures and make recommendations to the
Senior Manager where appropriate.

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of programs to ensure that standards of quality and effectiveness are maintained, and that outcomes are met.
  • Attend Advisory Committee meetings to receive feedback from clients and suggestions for improving the program offerings.
  • Develop Advisory Committees at sites regularly used for programs, if appropriate.
  • Ensure that staff prepare food for community and congregate dining events in compliance with all applicable regulations, and that there are staff scheduled with food handling certification.
  • Ensure that computerized data is maintained and print statistical reports as required. Monitor outcomes and be able to determine the explanation for anomalous data and to suggest remedies.
  • Accurately reconcile and submit petty cash receipts to Finance as per schedule
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and keep uptodate with changes in best practices for the delivery of seniors programs through courses, conferences, literature, and visits to colleague agencies

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Post Secondary Social Services diploma from an OCWS SSW recognized institution
  • Four or more years of professional experience working in the community support sector, including experience working with seniors
  • A good working knowledge of the policies and objectives of the agency, and of the social, legal, and health care services available to seniors in the community.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs
  • The ability to motivate staff and to encourage a team approach to client service
  • The ability to prepare schedules and reconcile receipts
  • Proficient in MS Word, use of the internet, and maintaining information in a database
  • The ability to work with mínimal supervision, and an ability to organize and coordinate schedules.
  • The skill and patience to deal with and resolve the concerns, conflicts and issues expressed by clients, staff, volunteers, and others.
  • The willingness and flexibility lo alter work schedules and regular duties to accommodate uncommon needs of the department and/or the agency.

Salary:
$27.48 per hour


Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Toronto, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Experience:

- working in the community support center: 4 years (preferred)
