Position Summary


As the Director Support Services & Maintenance you are energetic, creative and able to inspire your leaders and team to meet the daily requirements and long term goals of the department.

You are focused on cultivating an environment of teamwork, exceptional customer service and safe and operational facilities.


In this role, you are responsible to the Chief Financial and Information Officer and are accountable for the organization and overall management of the maintenance department and leadership of the portfolio.

You will develop, maintain and direct administrative, departmental standards and policies and procedures along in line with Accreditation Canada standards and other industry standards.

You are responsible for preparing the annual operating and capital budgets for the departments under your leadership and administering the approved departmental budgets while ensuring fiscal accountability.


In this role, you are also responsible for optimization of energy use, updating and maintaining the 5 Year Strategic Energy Management Plan, the 10 Year Architectural and Infrastructure Plans and you are the Hospital's Chief Fire Marshal.

You are also responsible for helping with after-hours facility emergencies.

Department/Unit/Program Description


The Support Services and Maintenances departments encompasses Nutrition Services, Print Shop, Maintenance, Environmental Services, Stores, Project Management, Biomed and Rental Property Management.


Essential Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering designation or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years progressive management and leadership experience in Engineering Services, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Experience in working with boilers, chillers, emergency power systems, air handling units, building automation systems, fire control systems of varying vintages
  • Experience in both major and minor construction project management
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Experience in managing skilled trades in a unionized environment
  • Experience in working with Infection Prevention and Control procedures
  • Experience in setting up and operating an equipment maintenance program
  • A high degree of professionalism along with personal and professional integrity
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data
  • Proven planning, organizing and effective time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public
  • Proven critical thinking, problem solving and effective conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis

Hours of Work
Hours of work for this position are 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, plus a rotational on-call schedule. Flexibility of hours of work is required and is based on department needs and emergency events.
