Position Description:


Improvement Specialist, Process and Innovation
We are seeking an
Improvement Specialist, Process and Innovation, to help drive transformational change at SickKids Hospital.

Working closely with the Director of Process Improvement and Innovation, the Improvement Specialist will play a key role in promoting a culture of process improvement and engaging SickKids staff in problem-solving using structured methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Innovation.


Here's What You'll Get To Do:

  • Support the implementation of Process Improvement and Innovation initiatives by engaging sponsors and stakeholders and promoting organization-wide understanding of concepts through coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Develop a deep understanding of critical hospital processes and lead teams in developing viable plans for improvement using classical industrial engineering and optimization methods.
  • Support relationships between the Continuous Process Improvement Program and Quality functions.
  • Develop simulation models (discreteevent, agentbased, etc.) to identify opportunities for optimization and simplification.
  • Engage senior leaders to provide guidance on their portfolios and define a vision for the future.

Here's What You'll Need:


  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering, (preferably Industrial Engineering), Business Administration, Operations Research, Healthcare Administration or relevant discipline with a focus on improvement science.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for solving problems and a genuine interest in understanding different perspectives.
  • Ability to clarify and structure perspectives to reach actionable conclusions.
  • Ability to synthesize information from different sources to draw actionable conclusions based on logic, context, and other pertinent factors.
  • At least 35 years of relevant experience is preferred.

You should highlight if you have:

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Excel (including VBA and Pivot Tables) or other Statistical Analysis Software.
  • Proficiency in ExtendSim, Simul8, or other Discrete Event Simulation Software Tool.

Employment Type:
Permanent full-time (35 hours/week)
