is looking for a Freight Account Specialist who can provide effective and accurate analysis of freight costs, expenditures, and on-time delivery performance in the shipping function of the organization.

The Freight Accounting Specialist is responsible for analyzing carrier freight invoices to ensure accurate payment to carriers and invoicing of expenses to Lynden's clients.

The Freight Accounting Specialist is also responsible for the processing, tracking, auditing, reconciling and reporting of the company's transportation invoices.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Using 3rd party Transportation Management System (TMS) and/or Lynden's enterprise system payment programs to processes invoices;
- confirming freight bill payment in compliance with the contract terms negotiated with the transport companies;
- confirming invoicing of freight expenses to clients in accordance with published freight tariffs to the client (s).

  • Daily review, resolution and release of TMS exceptions to facilitate client invoicing.
  • Data entry of nonEDI, Inbound and Returns freight invoicing transactions.
  • Rate audits and analysis of freight invoices.
  • Maintain carrier and client contract rate records and keeping them up to date
  • Manages carrier invoice aging reports.
  • Investigates and responds in writing to carrier billing issues and inquiries regarding payment of transactions or invoices.
  • Create and submit carrier claims on behalf of clients, coordinate throughout the lifecycle of cargo claims, acting as a liaison between our transportation providers, clients and internal operations and customer service teams.
  • Pulls data from multiple systems for analysis and manipulation using TMS query tools.
  • Prepares and analyzes data including carrier invoices and TMS to manage carrier payables and client billing.
  • Creates and reviews Excel reports to assist in the management of the freight bill approval process.
  • Maintain TMS system databases and filing system for received and processed freight invoices.
  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries on any issues relating to freight payment or client billing.
  • Client billing:
  • Retrieve and download from TMS website, client billing invoices.
  • Submit billing invoices to clients.
  • Review billing invoices for accuracy and submit recommendations for corrections as required.
  • Process debit/credit authorization requests.
  • Assists with analyzing the TMS Pre-Invoice and end of month (EOM) accounting reports.
  • Maintain file system of billing invoices issued to clients.
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Possesses good decisionmaking skills along with the ability to determine the types of problems that will be referred to the immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and complete job tasks within defined timelines.

Education & Experience:


Minimum education required:


  • Postsecondary school diploma college instruction. A college diploma is not required.

Minimum experience required:


  • 13 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience and high proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience in transportation industry, such as rate entry, collection, billing and/or operations.
