Position:
Live-in Grandma (KOKUM)


Position Profile:
The Live-in Grandma provides emergency and temporary respite services to children at the CUMFI Supported Living Homes.

Referrals for children with the Outreach program must be pre-approved by the Director as priority is given to clients at the CUMFI Supported Living Homes.

The Live-in Grandma is responsible for the safety and supervision of children in her care, as well as meal preparation, and maintaining daily routines.

The Live-in Grandma must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children who come into her care at varying hours.


Position Reporting:
This position reports to the Executive Director/Directors


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise and care for children in employers residence at 705 Avenue L North, Saskatoon as a Livein Grandma
  • Maintain a daily log of children's activities
  • Bathe, dress, and feed infants, and children
  • Prepare formulas and change diapers for infants (30 lbs or more)
  • Oversee children's activities, meals and rest periods, as instructed by employer
  • Instruct children in personal hygiene and social development ie Wash/dry hands after using the washroom
  • Must attend to child(ren) personal hygiene upon arrival and daily grooming
  • Maybe have to administer meds ie Right person, right medicines, right time, right dose
  • Tend to the emotional wellbeing of children ie Colic, abuse and neglect, etc
  • There shall be no physical discipline and disciplinary measures must be discussed with
  • Organize and participate in activities such as games, crafts, reading, and outings to provide amusement and exercise
  • Weekly grocery shopping for the house ie Consists of four major food groups
  • Plan, prepare and serve healthy meals for children using 4 major food groups
  • Arrange transportation with Director's for school and to appointments
  • Perform housekeeping duties and disinfecting to provide a healthy clean environment for 1:the children ie. House chores and cleaning schedule
  • Observe children and prepare reports for home care or babysitting agency
  • May be required to keep records of daily activities and health information regarding each
child

  • Physically able to climb up and down a flight of stairs and carry up to 35lbs
  • Physically able to lift and put child(ren) in a car seat
  • Physically able to manage up to four children who may have behavior or health issues

Additional responsibilities:


  • Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures; participate in daily client and weekly client progress review, weekly staff meetings or phone calls other agency related meetings as directed by management
  • Perform other duties related to this position, as directed by the Executive Director/Directors

Qualifications:


  • Early Childhood Diploma or equivalent training and experience
  • Strong understanding of child development and human behavior
  • Knowledge and understanding of the history of Aboriginal peoples and their socio economic backgrounds
  • Dedication to improving the quality of life for First Nations and Metis people in Saskatoon through the promoti.011of a caring community and commitment lo working with others
  • Ability to speak a First Nations or Metis language is an asset
  • Criminal and vulnerable persons record check
  • Food Safety and handling certificate
  • Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED
  • Respectful of confidentiality

Salary:
$20.00-$21.00 per hour
