    Description

  • Provide legal advice to management, clients or other CMHC staff on a wide range of matters including litigation, employment and labor related matters.
  • Draft and advise on agreements and other legal documents to support corporate activities and strategic direction.
  • Conduct legal research in support of legal issues ranging from moderate to high complexity to facilitate the delivery of legal services, and expand personal knowledge and familiarity with CMHC's programs and operations.
  • Liaise with management to identify potential legal risks and efficient mitigating strategies, and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
  • Consult and share information with the Legal Services Division team, and escalate issues that fall outside the scope of the position's legal expertise when required.
  • Instruct and manage outside counsel on matters assigned.
  • Manage client relationships by leading the delivery of legal services on assigned files and client groups.
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties.
  • Ensure legal requirements and their implications on CMHC are communicated and understood by key internal stakeholders.
  • Support other counsels, legal directors and senior management of the Legal Services Division in their respective roles in the achievement of the Legal Services Division's objectives.
  • Persuade, influence and negotiate with others on a regular basis.
  • What you should have (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Membership of a Bar in any province or territory (common law or civil law).
  • A minimum of two years' post-ca ll legal experience, in private or public sector firms or organizations.
  • Advanced legal research and drafting skills.
  • A demonstrated ability for teamwork.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, flexibility and innovation skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple files under very tight deadlines.
  • It would be great if you also had (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Knowledge of Crown corporations and government machinery.
  • Experience with litigation, employment and labor related matters including with entities subject to the Canada Labor Code.
  • Bilingualism (French and English).
