Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr.

Anthony Nichols will support the research activities of multiple principal investigators within the department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Cancer Clinic, in adherence with ethics protocols and guidelines.

The incumbent will handle day-to-day research duties and will be a liaison between the research team and study participants.

The incumbent will assist in the dissemination of research results arising from these projects, and perform qualitative and quantitative data collection, data entry and data processing as well as communicate research progress to stakeholders and sponsors.

They will carry out research according to protocols laid out by primary researchers or sponsors:

Assist in the screening/consenting/enrolling of participants; Follow up with patients regarding research activities, schedule research activities and interview patients; Assist with the maintenance/update of study documents in accordance with REB policies and procedures; Be responsible for providing and taking informed consent from patients; Data collection, entry and maintenance of study databases; Liaise with clinical staff concerning the enrollment of patients in studies; Assist with quality checks to verify integrity of data and generating reports; Take initiative, as needed to clarify any perceived data entry errors or to address other issues that might affect data integrity.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of focus
  • 1 year of work experience supporting research in a related clinical field
  • Detailoriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Familiarity with research policies and practices
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Attention to detail with an ability to collect, retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizeable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is
- accurate and comprehensive

  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research
  • Familiarity with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
  • Familiarity with experimental design and analysis
  • Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document technical information
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
