This project is part of a larger grant titled "The CART Access project:

Advancing access to abortion for under-served populations through tools for healthcare professionals and people seeking care" Led by PI, Wendy Norman, Professor and Lead Investigator of the Contraception and Abortion Research Team.

By working collaboratively with project partners and health professional associations in Canada, the project aims to improve access to abortion resources by redesigning our virtual community of practice platform from a research implementation tool to a public/open-access platform with an option for healthcare professionals to subscribe to the site newsletter.

The Research Manager will be based in the co-Investigator's Research Unit at the UBC School of Nursing in Vancouver, BC and the Women's Health Research Institute.

Organizational Status

The Research Manager will report directly to the co-Investigator, Dr. Fatawu Abdulai.

The Research Manager will collaborate with and is responsible for communications with various team members (including our software development team in Alberta), other project teams, as well as communicating with the various health professional groups across the country.

Research staff and trainees directly involved in data collection, data cleaning, and review of the abortion-related resources will report directly to the Research Manager, who will also oversee the recruitment and work of our contractual staff and work-lean students.

Work Performed


Research Program Development:

  • Set priorities and goals for the research program, in conjunction with co
  • Investigators
  • Provide expertise in research management to develop and achieve project timelines and key performance indicators as per the project funding agreement. This includes accountability for effective implementation and execution of all research activities and independent decisions regarding the research process.
  • Exercise a high level of professional judgment and initiative in the overall coordination and management of the intervention research activities.
Strategic Project Leadership

  • Oversee planning, management, and handling of communications pertaining to study partners and health professional associations.
  • Supporting research meetings by arranging, organizing, coordinating and managing the logistics for CART and associated project meetings, taking meeting minutes and communicating with appropriate stakeholders and leadership
  • Work closely and communicate regularly with the software development team (based in Alberta), and contractual staff including graphic designer, content writer and UI/UX professionals.
  • Facilitate ongoing dialogue and decisionmaking regarding all study protocol activities with study partners
  • Collaborate with our content reviewers (English and French) to ensure appropriate and timely review of abortionrelated resources and working to resolve discrepancies when detected
  • Plan and organize team meetings with study partners at other sites
  • Supervise the documentation of decisions related to research analysis and data collection plans, and team communications
  • Responsible for the management of data collection and analysis materials at each stage of the project including the setup and maintenance of files, data tracking, and storage procedures, etc.
  • Processing financial transactions for grantfunded research projects, including submitting incurred expenses for reimbursement, reconciling monthly credit card payments, arranging payment for business and independent contractor invoices, travel claims, and updating tracking logs for external agency invoices
  • Ensure timely notification to coinvestigators of issues or problems
