Reporting to an Accounting manager, and supporting the Director, Accounting and Procurement, this position is responsible for assisting with the delivery of accounting services as directed in the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, financial reporting and payroll services support.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant is expected to carry out or assist the VFPA Accounting team in a variety of duties, which can include:

  • Assist with the timely preparation and processing of accurately coded and approved accounts payable and accounts receivable entries, and preparation of accounts payable payments.
  • Create journal vouchers and perform account reconciliations.
  • Assist with the month end close process, which can include:
  • Assisting with the preparation, entry of accounting entries
  • Assisting with GST and other tax filings
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Participate in special projects or process improvements
  • Assisting to validate or test data
  • Assisting in the implementation of process improvements
  • Assist in preparation of reports as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

You must be a full-time student enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce/ Business Administration degree program specializing in Accounting. Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office and Excel, are essential.


SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

You must have good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively and positively with staff. Must be a highly motivated individual with a strong orientation to customer service and teamwork. A good command of the English language and strong written communication skills are essential. General understanding of accounting and advanced excel skills is considered an asset.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


TERM & HOURS:

For a 4-month work term: May August 2023

For an 8-month work term: May December 2023

Regular daytime working hours:
Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.


RATE OF PAY:
$21.74
