Dietary Aide/Cook

$20.50 per hour

Position Summary


The Dietary Aide/Cook is responsible for providing a variety of duties related to the preparation of resident meals and snacks, the service of foods and the routine cleaning of food services areas in accordance with the policies of the home and applicable legislation.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist with food/meal production
  • Prepare trays/plates and/or distribute the resident meals and snacks according to the diet list/individual diet menus and the residents' preferences
  • Prepare nourishments and carts for service
  • Prepare supplements and thickening fluids for texturealtered diets
  • Follow each resident plan of care and communicate any discrepancies to the supervisor in a prompt manner
  • Prepare tables and serving areas for meal services
  • Maintain a sanitary and clean working environment in line with infection control techniques
  • Maintains food handling protocols and infection control practices in keeping with public health practice and applicable legislation
  • Work in accordance with the home's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Transport dishes to/from dining rooms and kitchen.
  • Wash/sanitize tables, chairs, serveries
  • Complete the daily and deep cleaning and sanitizing of dishes, utensils, glassware and equipment used for resident meal preparation, delivery and service
  • Receive, store and manage the inventory of resident food and food service supplies
  • Ensure good personal hygiene, with a neat and clean appearance and in accordance with dress code for the department as per policy, such as, safe foot attire, hair net etc.
  • Follow and meet all predetermined work routine and schedules
  • Follow cleaning schedule and sanitation guidelines for dinning rooms and/or resident eating areas at all times
  • Carry out all other jobrelated duties that contribute to the team approach of resident care as assigned by the supervisor

(required) Current Food Handlers Safety Awareness certification offered through public health agencies.

(required) One year experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment

(preferred) Knowledge of basic food preparation and handling principles obtained through the enrolment or completion of a Food Service Worker training program at an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a registered private career college in Ontario

(preferred) Be a graduate of Chef Training or Culinary Management Diploma from an accredited college

  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs, stand for long periods of time; walk and climb stairs frequently throughout the day; Crouch, kneel, stoop/bend for short periods of time; ability to tolerate heat in kitchen area
  • Previous professional experience in a health care setting an asset
  • Knowledge of sanitation, hygiene, food production, safety, and understanding of therapeutic diets
  • Reliable and able to work with others in a team atmosphere
  • Time management skills with ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with residents, team members and visitors of a LTC home
  • Good written and verbal communication

Job Types:
Part-time, Casual

Part-time hours: 8-44 per week


Salary:
$20.50-$27.50 per hour

  • Cooking: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
