The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

TITLE:
SchoolsPlus Community Outreach Worker


REPORTS TO:
SchoolsPlus Facilitator


LOCATION:
Yarmouth Alternative High School and YCMHS Connect Centre


ROLE:


The Community Outreach Worker under the direction of the Schools Plus Facilitator will provide direct support to children, youth, and families and would assist in navigating children, youth and their families to services and resources in the community.

The Community Outreach Worker will work collaboratively with other school and agency staff to ensure that the student and/or their family have timely access to services and programs required.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Completion of a postsecondary diploma or certificate in community services, human services, social services, nursing diploma/degree, child development diploma; OR
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience, or acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience;
  • Direct knowledge and experience of the community served is an asset;
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the needs of youth at risk;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
  • Possess effective report writing skills; verbal communication;
  • Demonstrated experience with mentoring/ coaching/ facilitating skills;
  • An ability to coordinate and collaborate with other persons and services as part of a Comprehensive Plan of Services for a family;
  • Possess the ability to maintain rapport and serve as a role model;
  • Broad knowledge base related to the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of a family unit;
  • In depth knowledge of services available in the community;
  • Knowledge of normal/abnormal child development;
  • Knowledge of financial management;
  • Experience in facilitating groups;
  • Initiative, coupled with good judgment, is required to take appropriate, immediate action relative to the client circumstances and time.
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Role/Responsibilities:


  • Provides coaching/mentoring.
  • Acts as a navigator for youth and families.
  • Provides support to youth and families as required.
  • Facilitates youth involvement.
  • Facilitate group sessions.
  • Provides flexible services during evenings and weekends as required.
  • Support for transition to school.
  • Maintain case recordings.
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.


The Community Support Worker must be able to exercise good judgment with respect to changes in client/family circumstances and reports to the Schools Plus facilitator.

12 Month Employee - 7 hours per day - Monday to Friday

(Does not follow the school calendar)
