This New Media Lab Programming and Research Coordinator will be working in the aabijijiwan New Media Lab.

Their essential purpose is to coordinate the programs (workshops, incubators, artist residencies, etc) that take place at the lab, and work with the New Media Lab Technician to setup and maintain equipment (3D printers, laser cutter, virtual reality headsets, audiovisual tools, sewing machines, etc).

The New Media Lab Programming and Research Coordinator will also support with partnership management, grant writing, reports, and financial and administrative tasks for the research grants associated with the aabijijiwan New Media Lab.


Responsibilities:


  • Participating in partnership meetings with internal faculty, staff, community organizations, and external partners to explore possible projects and activities for the lab.
  • Working with Lab Director to ensure program development aligns with research grant objectives and budgets.
  • Cocreating student projects with Research Assistants (generally between 1015), which align with their interest areas and number of work hours.
  • Cocreating artist residencies with local and international artists using artist residency form system. Working with New Media Lab Technician to ensure they have the equipment and resources needed to complete their projects.
  • Supporting New Media Lab Technician where required in setup and maintain lab equipment
  • Supporting New Media Lab Technician with equipment tutorials, howtos, troubleshooting guides, lab posters and labelling, where needed.
  • Working with University Safety department on risk management and ensuring relevant protocols are in place.
  • Using the booking form system to schedule lab activities, and maintaining lab calendar, ensuring there are no conflicts.
  • Setting up and tracking key card access for authorized Lab users.
  • Working with kishaadigeh team regarding intersecting research and activities.
  • Documenting lab activities for grant reporting, social media, website, newsletter, and other knowledge dissemination purposes.
  • Working with Designer to create and update social media, website, newsletter content.
  • Providing tours and orientation sessions for the lab spaces.
  • Shipping and receiving equipment to/from other labs and partner institutions.
  • Keeping lab spaces neat and organized, arranging for cleaning or repairs.
  • Communicating with funding bodies, tracking any milestone dates, and report submission dates.
  • When funding is granted, working with University departments to update relevant internal systems and assigning account number.
  • Documenting all activities (written, pictures, videos) for reporting
  • Writing and submitting progress and final reports.
  • Closing out accounts.
  • Maintaining familiarity with partnerships involved in various research grants (upwards of 10 grants at any given time, with 50+ partnerships across).
  • Tracking partnerships using designated Customer Relations Management tool (CRM)
  • Sending out and tracking Partnership Contribution forms.
  • Connecting Research Assistants with partners and facilitating collaborative projects.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed budgets for all grants, assisting with accounting and communicating with Financial Services.
  • Projecting next year's budget for strategic planning.
  • With support from department administration: processing incoming invoices and producing outgoing invoices, processing Transfer of Funds Agreements, reconciling monthly visa statements with receipts, creating purchasing order for large purchases and comparing vendor quotes.
  • Event coordination: participating in planning meetings for events, booking venues, vendors, caterers, etc., creating and sending out invitations, creating and maintaining event pages, managing registration, responding to inquiries and questions about events.

Qualifications:


  • BA in a related field required.
  • MA in related field is preferred.
  • Previous work with media lab, studio, or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of and passion for Art History and Digital/New Media preferred.
  • Proficiency with project management tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Experience working with BIPOC communities.
**An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.


Condition(s) of Employment:


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts
  • Position involves travel opportunities.
  • Ability to lift upwards of 30 lbs.

Note:
The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person.


This is a full-time continuing position and the salary range will be from $48, $67,212.60 annually.
