- Ensure ships operate safely and efficiently
- Oversee navigation standards, seamanship, and operational procedures
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses
- Assist with vessel safety management systems (ISM Code).
- Projects and any other key responsibilities as required
- Plan and supervise maintenance, repairs, and dry dockings
- Monitor hull, machinery, and equipment condition
- Approve repair specifications and contractors
- Manage spare parts, stores, and technical budgets
- Ensure compliance with: Flag state, Class societies (DNV, ABS, Lloyd's, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW etc.)
- Prepare for and attend audits and inspections
- Manage certification and statutory surveys
- Prepare and control vessel operating budgets, invoice, repair costs approvals.
- Optimize operating costs without compromising safety
- Act as the link between ship and shore
- Coordinate with: Vessel Captain, engineers, Shipyards and repair contractors
- Classification societies and flag authorities
- Charterers and insurers
- Chief Engineering (Marine) Certification or previously held Class One certificate of competency preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in the marine industry
- In-depth knowledge of marine regulations and industry standards.
- Proficiency in marine engineering.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical information and drawings.
- Experience with safety management systems.
- Ability to manage budgets and control costs.
- Experience with the maintenance and repair of marine vessels.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards.
- Ability to travel to various ports and vessels.
- Experience with writing dry docking spec's and overseeing drydocking of vessels
- Experience with subsea equipment (ROV's, plough, etc.) is considered an asset

IT is led by an entrepreneurial management team and is recognized as a leader in its field and uses modern and advanced information systems.
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, IT is seeking a Marine Superintendent to join our Halifax team in a full-time staff position. The purpose of the Marine Superintendent is to ensure safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective operations of our Vessel. The successful incumbent will be assigned a vessel within fleet and be responsible for the technical, operational, and regulatory management of ship. Periodic international travel to the vessel is required.
