Project Manager:

The Project Manager is part of a Project Management team who are accountable for the coordination of major projects.

This includes participating in planning of contracts, evaluating detailed engineering specifications, defining the scope of work, preparing estimates, leading sub-contractors, liaising with customers, and coordinating regulatory and Class inspections.

In addition, this role ensures that the applicable health & safety regulations and ISO procedures are adhered to.


Note:

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 203 East Esplanade, North Vancouver, V7L 1A1.



What you'll do

  • Handle and supervise project work by participating in long, medium, and shortterm planning of contracts; evaluating specifications; distributing drawings or technical information to yard Trade Superintendents; developing and coordinating the work breakdown structure; scheduling and communicating with customers in regard to the scope of work and quality/cost issues.
  • Clearly identify the scope of work for the actual projects by interpreting specifications, capturing information, and, when required, preparing estimates for work arising, ensuring that customer satisfaction and a profitable project completion is achieved.
  • Manage subcontractors by establishing the content of work and supplies, signing contracts, leading all aspects of the work performed, following up with work progress, and approving contractor invoices.
  • Conduct preinspection checks for structural, outfit, or insulation work. Requests onsite surveys and inspections by contacting the responsible authorities and coordinating meetings for customer representatives and regulatory bodies. Reports survey results to Production for repair or confirmation that work is complete.
  • Provide technical support or solutions for internal staff, customers, and the technical office. Supports the Production department by providing technical information, establishing/prioritizing work scope, identifying methods and processes, contributing to problem solving, evaluating order changes and project progression, preparing required delivery QA documentation, and ensuring that projects are completed in a safe and effective manner.
  • Provide project representation at the Seaspan Health and Safety Committee. Ensures that subcontractors follow the company's health and safety requirements when performing work on site. Ensures compliance of the Seaspan Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures at the Vancouver Drydock.

What you'll bring

  • Postsecondary education from a recognized institution in project management and marine technology
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in a supervisory capacity within a ship repair/shipbuilding environment
  • Demonstration of exemplify business ethics, integrity, and honesty in all situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
  • Technical skills in welding, marine engineering, electrical and mechanical are desirable.
  • Strong organizational, planning, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, supervisory or leadership skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, in the English language.
  • Knowledge of Seaspan corporate policies and procedures, WCB rules and regulations and CWB standards (Canadian Welding Bureau)
  • Good judgment and works well under pressure.
  • Strong abilities to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptable to rapidly changing demands
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook
