Job Summary

  • Dalhousie University's Clinical Psychology PhD program, within the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Faculty of Science, is based on a scientistpractitioner model and is designed to give our graduates a thorough grounding in science, research and clinical practice. Reporting to the Clinic Co-Directors, the Case Manager will provide comprehensive case management services to Clinic clients, taking the lead in managing client support and coordinating the involvement of other professions and partners as part of a collaborative case management model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in community development and social action projects, making linkages between individual struggles and the larger structures impacting clients, and work toward addressing them with the Clinic team.
  • Provide comprehensive case management services to clients including intake assessment, case planning, case conferencing within the clinic and outside agencies, outreach, advocacy, supportive counselling, and facilitating referrals.
  • Participate in interprofessional rounds and collaborate on cases with other disciplines providing client care (through various partnerships). Assist the Clinic Directors with student orientation and training as required.
  • Connect clients and families with resources and supports in the community. Provide follow up with clients and referral agencies as appropriate and complete comprehensive record keeping.
  • Offer social work services within an antioppressive framework using traumainformed, lowbarrier and harmreduction approaches.
  • Ensure proper documentation, file management and confidentiality is maintained. Participate in Clinic meetings and Clinic rounds as required.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work in the clinic and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work and Registered Social Worker (RSW) licensure from Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW) plus approximately two years' relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the broad spectrum of social work practice from individual and community practice, policy, social action and social change.
  • Must have proven knowledge of organizational structures, policies and procedures in the social services and health sector, both formal and informal community based.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse client population.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), organizational and time management skills. Experience in working with virtual technology (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft office).
  • Must have access to a vehicle or be able to use the public transit system.
