Terms:
Part-time, Temporary


Hours of Work:3 hours per week


Shift: 6:00-9:00pm (Plus additional time for training and meetings as required)


Start Date:
October 5, 2023 (Training TBD in September)


End Date:
December 7, 2023 (Programs restart in January)


Salary:
$25.00 per hour

Manager, Family Healthy Living Programs

The Generation Health Program is a childhood healthy weights family based healthy lifestyles program developed by the Childhood Obesity Foundation (COF) and delivered by the YMCA of Greater Vancouver.

The 10-week program and maintenance phase addresses healthy eating, physical activity, mental health and sleep through behaviour change and parenting skills.

The program sessions combine theory and activity opportunities delivered by a team.


Nature and Scope:

The Physical Activity Facilitator will deliver the physical activity portion of the weekly sessions.

They will mainly work with the children; however, they will need to provide some fun activity for the families as a whole.

The Physical Activity Facilitator will help support evaluation of this pilot program and will be responsible for delivering the content laid out in the facilitator manual.


Responsibilities:


  • Attend training workshop for the pilot program
  • Participate in regular pilot program delivery team meetings to support the ongoing development and implementation of the pilot program
  • Develop a thorough understanding of pilot program delivery model and resources
  • Participate in quality assurance procedures
  • Maintain a good understanding of and implement local sites' policies including Health and Safety, Child Protection, Data Protection, and Antibullying policy
  • Maintain client confidentiality according to established policy
  • Plan and lead pilot program physical activity sessions including set up and clean up
  • If necessary, substitute for Group Facilitator to deliver session to families
  • Participate in and support pilot program evaluation activities, which may include providing evaluation documentation and focus group participation.
  • Performing related duties as required

Qualifications/Experience:


  • Working with groups of children and at times their caregivers with the ability to engage and motivate them to participate in physical activities
  • Holds a current exercise/physical training degree/certificate/qualification
  • HIGH FIVE training and/or other related training such as behaviour change considered an asset
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children and families in a group setting
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
  • Able to manage and facilitate large groups of children
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with a variety of cultures and family dynamics preferably in a family place setting
  • Knowledge of physical activity guidelines for children and youth
  • Experience leading physical activity for children and youth
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
